What is going on with the "RS Snobbery" lately? When PF started up it was a welcome relief from the RSBB, and a place where you could actually exist and be noticed even if your car didn't have Cosworth or RS stamped on it...

But lately all I have been seeing is people shooting shit down cos it's not "real"....

For an example we'll use a Sierra Sapphire.... It is a Sierra Sapphire, no doubt about it, but people on here insist on saying it isn't real Eh, how can it not be real? Is it a kit car or something?

Oh no, what they meant was it's a Saff, but it's not a Cossie, so it can't be real.... WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOX

Take Jims new car - personally I love it, looks nice (and red ) and it has a great engine - one that is far better as a daily user than any YB (most likely FAR more reliable too ) and also as stock the 24v (in a Saff I mean) will cain std Saff Cossie's (nigh on identical bhp, but so much more torque)

But eveyone saying it is not "real" jsut shows how much snobbery there is within the RS ranks.... No your right, it is not a Sierra Cosworth but then it ain't trying to be is it? Okay might have a body kit on it from the Saff, but how many cars don't nowadays? It does have a Cosworth engine, jsut not the precious YB, so it can't be "real" can it?

So does that mena that if you stick a set of 17's on your Saff Cos or chip it and change the air filter yours is not real either?

It think that this snobbery is the real wound in the side of RS Owners and is THE main reason I will NOT join the RSOC, even tho currently I do own an RS....

I didn't mean it as a "help-Jim" post, it is jsut something I have been noticing recently a lot more than before..

Another post I jsut saw was someone asking about 3 door saff's... Someone said they had seen one, but it wasn't a "real" one (ie it was a Saff, but not a Cossie)..... Again I ask why does it have to be a Cossie to be "real" ?????

It is jsut a case of "oh it ain't a Cossie/RS therefore it don't matter and is inferior" which is plain and simple snobbery my friends.....

i know plenty of ppl with 1.3 on the logbook their cars would giv quick cossies a run for their money tho (obviously they aint still 1.3's)

b) Slows you down - releasing all that lovely boost!

only dump valve should be used is on a T4 car to stop snapping the shaft and thats a recirculating valve! IMO anyway.

On the other side - I've got nothing any XR or whatever. I don't personally like the saphire shape in general. It's not a bad car, great performance for quite cheap, just not to my taste.

But at the end of the day I think Stu and the guys intended it to be a site for people to gather and share their 'Passion' in cars, in this occasion Fords.

I sold my Grey RS about a year ago, but didnt mean I stopped coming on here while I had my 220 Coupe. Selling it never made me less of an enthusiast.

It just so many more people come on here with their own views.

Thats exactly my point Lee - it's aplace to share your passion about "Ford" cars... Not jsut RS/Cosworth cars... Otherwise it would be called PassionRS

It jsut seems that a lot of people who own RS cars and Cosworth cars think that anything else is not worth shit.... Funny when it's peeps that never used to own RS/Cosworth cars, but now they do they think they are cut above the rest eh?....

Take for example Jano's car.... It's an XR3, NOT an RS Turbo. but I don't think that my RS Turbo is better than his, quite the contrary, his is quiker, faster, has better mods etc....

Take James Raby's car.... That is an XR3i NOT an RS Tubo - but is soooooo much better than sooooo many RS Turbo's I've seen. I would rather buy that than 90% of S2's I've seen. But most wouldn't as it don't have RS on the log book Like the saga with Doo's old motor (whole thread about that somewhere....)

The RS badged cars were around in the 70's well before the turbos were fitted, go back to Escort MK1's, look at the Mexico rally car, that where it all started. I think there has always been a "snob" value to these cars, owning a XR4i was laughed at by certain RS owners, clubs were established to help and get like minded people to-gether for the benefit of all, sadly another side also appears. Anyone should be able to do what they like to any car, others can learn from this and should they decide to " modify " their car advice can be asked and given, without anyone doing work on they own cars no one would learn how and what to do to their own one, difficulty, cost or time.

I'm in agreement with Thrush on this, though I don't feel as strongly (read don't really give a shit atm) it is sometimes hard to justify what some people say about some of the XRs, although many of these XRs are in the 200+ club as it were - badge snobbery has been rife on here before, and it's sometimes hard to tell where the banter stops....

i had the same thing when i had my sierra, just because it wasnt an RS it fealt like certain people had a "high and mighty" attitude towards me, since i sold the sierra and bought a laguna i have also had a comment about not even being on these forums anymore

just because i dont own a ford anymore it doesnt mean i dont belong here, i still love fords and im still passionate about them and one day i will be back in a ford.
Most people need a break from fords after owning them for a long time and for me this is a break, simple.

mr manc's examples seem a bit strange, far as i can see nobody treated him different cause he owned a nail of a boggo sierra, and people dont treat him different now he owns a laguna.
TBH your thing about "i love fords" blah blah seems wierd as all you ever used to do is constantly go on about scoobies and apart from owning a 50buck saff you seemed to have barely any ford interest, but i duno.

Either way you have always been one of the publically sound car fans, you seem to appreciate a car for the right reasons.

But I don't think this is about being ignored it's about having people make abusive comments about Ford cars because they aren't an RS or are an RS but they say they don't deserve the marque.

Right I remember you whinging about no one helping you. You wanted suggestions on mods for your saff. IIRC you wanted bodykit suggestions? I and others suggested you go down a more simple route. Christ, someone even knocked up a PS version for you, had colour coded bumpers and was lowered. You didnt want to spend loads (understandable) but in actual fact all you did was FUCK ALL! So exactly where did this "passionate" bit of your car come in exactly!

And you point is what exactly? The only "real" Cosworth part of a Saff is the fucking engine. Take that away and stick a 1.6 lite 8v engine in it and despite what the V5 says it aint the same thing. Its not in keeping with the "spirit" of cosworth. Thats what to me at least defines whats Real.
