Nobody would take the same job for less money..but if it's a better job, more suitable, closer..more enjoyable..then why not? If you can afford to do something you think you'll enjoy more go for it.

i would take a pay cut if it meant doing something that i enjoy doing more than i do now, and i could afford to live like that. it's not possible in the area of the country where i live and work due to house prices, but if it meant relocating somewhere cheaper and nicer, then i'd do it

Yes

have done it myself two years ago as was working in a shop as a assistant manmager working monday to saturday with a day of in the week every other sunday every bank holiday and only had xmas day of

pay was great but did no boating for 3 years and this is my main hobby

so now i work in a warehouse monday to friday no weekend work and get bank holidays of and have a week at xmas.

i take home about Ł300 a month less as not got commision as in shop but the advantages of the new job out weighed the loss of money

Could you find out more about the pay somehow, to see what numbers your looking at? or apply for the job and you can see if you'd get offered it etc?

You might need to have a think about how much you actually need to earn to cover everything..and see if the new job provides that?

Very tough decision Matt. I'm also a shift worker and work about 18 miles from home. I've been there about 8 years now and i can honestly say i love my job i work all kinds of hours and shifts. But i ALWAYS get saturday night off and this is my downfall. Always go out and piss 80-100 quid up the wall on drink I know if i had a day off in the week and worked Saturday night i would be a lot lot richer! anyway back on topic........

Working shifts really doesn't bother me as i have no family/kids or anything. I think the main part is being happy in a job. You could jack your shift work job in and start with this british company and they could be complete wankers! So be careful...

On the money side of things Ł700 a month is a fuckin lot of money to lose a month If i was you i would have a sit down and actually think if you could afford to lose that amount of money a month.

As you would be working days you would have evenings/weekends free and you would have the urge to go out and spend money as your not used to having so much free time.

Very difficult one. Have a sit down and think...

Nice guess mate

And yeah, they are a bunch of cunts

Shifts doesnt actually bother me to be honest, its just the job, place, people, attitude to workers, blah blah i could go on for hours.

My basic a month without overtime is currently roughly Ł1450 take home, the other job is advertising at Ł340 p/w so thats Ł1360 a month BEFORE tax so around 1k take home, Ł340 p/w works out at 17.7k a year, I grossed 24k last year so its quite a big drop.

Smit - bit of a boring cunt mate, dont drink so chances of me going out every night are nil
Thats good pay BUT i'd rather cut my own feet off and beat myself to death with them than work there, know a few lads that do

I took a new job on a few monthes ago. I've taken a pay cut over it but i'm a lot happier now.

In my opion being happy with shit pay is better than being on a good wage and being miserable

I work for a Dutch Oil Company (cough!!) and they are a bunch of tight fisted fuckers who pretty much want you to work overtime for free! Id definately take a pay cut to move on aslong as I could afford the move (ie mortgage payments covered etc.) And if it got me on permanant day then its an added bonus!

Go for it fella

i took a pay cut to start another job, discovered it was just as wank but less money

then i got a job at fords, had issues with that and left, then they needed staff and i got a payrise to go back and now i still have some issues ( i quit on thursday actually but my main manager talked me back and im gona request another rise out of it )

but i have been there, the secret i found is to save up 6months cash spare so then you can take another job and still be fine for 6 months and then discuss a new wage

good luck

Depends how you look at it, Ive took around Ł1k a month drop recently in the aid to be happy and be able to sleep at night without work on my mind,
Dont get me wrong, my previous job has worked wonders for me financially but i lost my social life then my smile,
Now the cash aint flowing as freely (yet, give it a couple of months to straighten out) but at least i wake up smiling each morning.

I took a Ł4k a year pay cut to leave Autoglass and begin working for a new company, where I was going to be manager of the drum dept (musical instrument retail shop). Now seeing that I am a drummer and love music and drums, this was a dream job for me, and although it was quite a bit less a year money wise to start with, I saw it as an opportunity that I might well be able to make good of

Sadly, the place went under cos the owner was a tycoon who just wanted to bleed everything dry and rip off the public and scarper with their money

So I went back ot Autoglass, and got a payrise out of it

Same for me, moved 300 miles for a new job on less money and more travel. But its 100 times a much better quality of life where I am now compared to where I was.

The job is only part of it, for me, a very small part of it.

Cheers

Matt

If it'll make you happier then yeah, go for it.

I've just left Honda Racing F1 to go work for RC Developments, a jap tuning company - everyone was telling me i was mad, but i know its the right choice for me and the cost of living up north will make my cashflow a lot better

I was on commission sellin flights! I was an engineer before that but because of my gift of the gab a built up a client base and was making proper dough floggin flights! was gettin paid thousands in lump sums after big months and at the end of the year i used to get a bonus based on my performance! I think my last wage from then was around Ł9500 before tax Hated the job in the end though and i hated the long hours and weekends! I probably do similar hours in summer here to be honest but at least i love it! Only fringe benefit besides money was the birds

It was on its way out though mate, i could see it was in decline and you had to work harder and harder for the money to come in! Extras such as taxes and airport security charges where eating into profits for lads like me. The final nail for me was our own website was undercutting us and we couldnt match the prices without making a loss 'Tinterweb has killed it, id never go back. Lads who were earing footballer money when i was was there have actually left to set up thier own place beacuse the life was being squeezed out of it! Bubbles burst with that one pal

Meh.. back to the drawing board then. Its getting harder and harder to find a decent paid job that i'd actualy enjoy around my area.

Working abroad next year if sounding better and better by the day.

Thing is, the thought of all them bits of paper with the queens bonce on at the end of the month makes you do it, IMO a takes a strong will to change job for a life over a lifestyle.
