Basically, it has a new classification - dwarf plannet. There are thought to be many undiscovered in our solar system. There are 2 other known dwarf plannets - Ceres and Xena.

As said, it was re-evaluated in respect of its status as a planet. It was, originally thought to be larger than it actually turned out to be, so doesn't deserve to be known as a planet. They say that there are actually 2 known asteroids in our solar system that are larger than Pluto.

So, our solar system now consists of 8 planets!

I actually read the other day that if the solar system were fully re-evaluated, we could end up with as many as 39 recognised planets in our solar system!!
