my rs500 isnt a bufty car!
and its fairly quick too.........
and it could be for sale............
and its cheaper than most..........
and i kept up with my mates evo 6 makinnen on the way home from 10 of the best on the motorway and the twisty stuff......in a n reg uk impreza wagon(i have witnesses-sticky and shorty!).
but they do look nice, even i have been tempted but think i would get bored quickly.i had an evo 4 about a year ago and had it for 18 hours before p/x ing it for an escos the next day.(which i also didnt really like!)
just cant pull myself away from 2wd cossies.

RS500
Why...
If you dont get one now, you never will, prices WILL go thru the roof when they turn historic next year (20 years)
All the millionaire hillclimbers will buy them for squirting up hills and crashing into walls.

chip,it proves to me that the evo6 is only similar in performance to a uk spec subaru which was virtually standard, even my mate was surprised.
we're both decent drivers and there was nothing between the cars round the islands etc.
it tells me that i would get bored quickly with owning either over owning my rs500 which i get a buzz off whenever i drive it.dont get me wrong, the evo/subaru are fun to drive, just not as much fun,in my opinion as my rs500 is.
when i had the evo 4 i took it round all the good roads round here and ended up thinking "is that it"!
also when i was at 10 of the best i was really thinking about buying an evo/subaru for keeps, but then the reality of the road ones not being anything like the ones there hit me on the drive home.
thats all.................

I always fail to understand this though.
The EVO is probably three times the "driver's car" then the RS500 - it's faster, better gearing, stops better, handles better, and is faster in every road scenario (std for std).
How can the car that is not only slower, but ultimately less rewarding be the better car to drive? Maybe you're just not a very good driver

maybe, but he has told me he was trying very hard too.......
im not slating any of them-i actually like the way the subarus drive,i like the look of the evo 6,i didnt particularly like the way the evo 4 drove,i havent driven an evo 6 so cannot comment on wether i like the drive of them.from what i saw and experienced on the drive back it seems to me that there isnt much difference in performance between the subaru and the evo.he had 4 people in,i had 3.he was trying,so was i.
in my opinion-would i sell the rs500 and replace it with an evo and be happy-no,but thats me.
would i sell the rs500,buy a cheapish subaru as a runabout and build a big power sapphire-yes
im sure pete will look long and hard at all options and pick wisely,eh pete

Actually, I can see EXACTLY where Jay is coming from.
His Nan could drive an Evo quickly and anyone else with a modicum of skill could get within seconds of a truly quick driver's lap time with one (back to back, same car). This is due to all the electronics helping out the ham-fisted etc.
A POWERFUL 2wd Cossie is a LOT of hard work to keep pointing in a straight line, let alone around a track in a quick time. Mastering this skill gives an extra bit of enjoyment out of owning one, compared to the ease of driving an Evo fast, which ANYONE can do .

i dont own a standard rs500 unfortunately-mine is modified.i just dont think i would get the buzz i get in the rs500 in an evo on the road.
plus will an rs500 depreciate as much as an evo will over say the next 5 years?
i have been through the dilemmas of what i could replace the rs500 with if i sold it;
skyline, evo, subaru etc.....but up to now havent found something that has made me want to do it....for whichever reason.i always thought a go in a skyline would be the end of cossie ownership for me but i drove a standard ish r33 gtr and it didnt make me want to sell the rs500!

I have in my mind an ultimate spec one, that should my numbers come up, I WILL build (so never then ). You may be surprised to know it would only be around 460-470bhp, but be super responsive and with the steering mods to give it more lock, I'd like to go drifting with it as well .
I would also like to say, that on the ROAD, my Sapphire was more fun than the Escort. But on track (where you can explore the limits of traction etc), the situation is reversed, as the Sapphire with 500+bhp was too frustrating with all that wheel-spin.

Drifting? You absolute tart! You could have built a decent drift car for the money your gearbox cost you, and had all the fun, and none of the expense!
Jay - the ONLY reason I don't have an EVO is I can't afford one right now, thanks to me saving every penny I can. I'd have one like a shot though for a road car, as they are so fast for daily use.
I also prefer RWD, and find mastering that, as Mike suggests, more rewarding than outright speed etc, but a 500 for daily road use? It's an old old car nowadays......
