RX7's

Been kinda looking at 2 of them this weekend.

One is in a scrappy, complete but engine fucked.

other has had a fire under the bonnet and screen smashed/some other vandalism.

Both are around 1990.

What sort of money is in them ? are they any good chassis wise, and finally how easily will a V8 go in them ?

Im piss fuckin bored of Fords so fancy something totally different ;)

Just out of interest why stick a V8 in one when the engines in them are so good? I know it would be different but you'd be adding a lot of weight to the front of the car over the normal rotary engine I would have thought.

1990? So older shape? FC RX7? In the state you mention, and FC is worth next to nothing really, esp if its a non-turbo.

Fuck V8ing one either.

If you want sommat different buy an old opel manta and stick a V8 in that. Now that would be different.

Now that would be cool, my neighbour has a 16v manta thats parked right outside mine

just fancy doing something totally different from what im used to.

Id stick with an RX engine personally.

The grief of putting engines into cars they not meant to be in always stops it being a budget build...

I would but I dont have the first idea about them.

Cant be that expensive to fit a V8 ? making the crossmember etc fit is only time not any real money. loom could be a pain in the arse but again just time. that really just leaves a gearbox and prop to sort out which as you know is fairly straightforward.

Not looking to build anything spectacular, just something fun to throw about on the roads

What car are you fitting your 302 into ?

aduz Jul 24, 2006 12:40 AM

putting a v8 in a rx7 is punishable by death

come on though, not like either of them have a working engine.

besides imagine folks faces when they hear a v8 burbling towards them and a mazda pulls up

I bought an RX7 at the weekend :top: Awesome cars, been after one for a while now.

They can put 320bhp down in 1st gear in the dry without wheelspin and the handling is absolutely awesome

Only pic I have at the mo

I think if you want big power and it's a turbo it's easier to put a big single turbo on the twin turbo engine from what I've picked up on here and elsewhere.

CraigJ Jul 25, 2006 01:45 AM

This months max power or might be last months has a yank rx7 with a v8 in it looks good and goes well, on paper anyway.

If you want a cheap place to put a v8 without too much custom modification to pay for, put it in a sierra GLS

COSSIE CAL Jul 25, 2006 08:02 AM

yep get a sierra or a p100 pick-up and get a cheap rover or ford small block v8,good for around 300bhp!but if you want a cheap little rx7 youll have to keep looking, you can get late turbo convertibles for about £1800 and a early 93 or a 94 turbo for bout £3.5k,i would get a 1.6l sierra dump the engine and box+diff etc.get a cossie diff find a prop off a standard sierra and mate it to a type-9 or a similar ford item, link that to a rover v8 and hey presto youve got a v8 sierra but obviesly its harder than i just said
