What Car? 2-3k. Cheap to run..Newish...comfy and reliable?

Well as the title says

What car can I get for 3k that is cheap to run on insurance and fuel bills!

I am looking for a newish motor around 1998 onwards!

Has to be comfy also!

I have been looking at some mondeos but not sure on the MPG on the 2 litre bad boys or insurance costs!

Any opinions would be highly appreciated :)

what about a 1.8TD mondeo which i'm sure could be had in Ghia trim?

Poom 12-07-2006 08:32 AM

didn't come across any on the trader site when I had a look :(

Whats the reliability like on them?

It has to be a workhorse ha!

Rob84 12-07-2006 08:37 AM

well if its going to be a workhorse, would you really need air-con and all electrics etc?

just get a 1.8td LX estate then. big, comfy, good on fuel and reliable. couldnt ask for more! :top:

Poom 12-07-2006 08:40 AM

Well it needs to be comfy but what I mean is it needs to be reliable and be able to get me from a to b rather than neeing money thrown into it every couple of weeks like the RS :(

Just want a car I can get serviced and put fuel in! :)

Wouldnt mind all the luxuries though :)

5th one down. perfect for your needs imo :top:

Poom 12-07-2006 08:46 AM

Cheers!

I reckon an estate would be too big though :(

Mark B 12-07-2006 09:01 AM

to big for what?

MB.

Poom 12-07-2006 09:02 AM

For my needs!

There is only ever 1 person max in the car and not enough room on the drive for something so big! I wouldnt mind a normal non estate one though!

Mark B 12-07-2006 09:05 AM

i thought they were about the same length just with the roof a bit longer?

Get a 306 TD and you won't go far wrong!
Cheap to run with around 50mpg , grp 5 insurance , nippy , loaded if you get the right model and good fun to drive :top:

spadgeroo speaks the truth!

Oh, they look fooking massive! I think it is wayyyyy too much room for 22 year old lad living at home with his mum ha!

COMEDY DAN 12-07-2006 09:29 AM

mondeo TD with all the ghia extras, air con, leccys, etc. :top:

Pug 306 diesel, maybe a meridian as it comes with leather and aircon. :top: :top:

Not sure why you need to spend 3K.

I bought this a couple of months ago - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

All I did was get it serviced and MOT it and its been no bother since. Up and down the country and it never misses a beat. I get 500 miles to a tank as well.

Put the change into the RS :top:

Poom 12-07-2006 11:21 AM

Nah the RS is going :)

Coldo 12-07-2006 11:26 AM

Ive got something for you for less than half of that ;)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MESE%3AIT&rd=1

Fully loaded car, extremely comfy, classy, smooth, fast-ish, and surprisingly light on petrol.

Could probably do a deal considering its a fellow PF'er. Get in touch if your interested :top:

We got this for sale at the moment.

These can do up to 40mpg if you are sensible!
