Fastest vauxhall on street legal tyres is 11.8

All the R5's running in the 11s ive ever seen are on slicks and so irrelevant IMHO

What tyres was this on?

If its slicks its fuck all special TBH i know of an 8v nova thats run an 11.3 on slicks.

If that's the civic that was at santa pod on Sunday then it was running slicks! Didn't a fiesta on road tyres run 11.6's at TOTB IV last year?

Are they Road legal tyres with all the markings and proper tread,
Or the tyre's that are used at TOTB, which are "a form of moulded slicks" with a few codes on the side??

proper road legal tyres, same ones they drive to and from the event on and use when out on the road

they are a sticky compound though, certainly not nangkangs etc, but they arent wrinkle wall or anything like that.

All this tyres gumph is misleading.

Is there any rules that prevent sombody fitting 10x15" to the front of their FWD car and running say sticky 285-40-15 Yoko AVS road tyres...?

Would this be better than somebody running 6" wide slicks, but still 'road legal'?

What a load of balls, this "tyre gumph" isnt misleading at all.

stick some 285-40-15 on that car and it wont match the times it runs on slicks.

At the end of the day, 11.3 on slicks makes it a slow drag car, NOT a fast road car.

If the person with the car wants it compared to road cars then they should run it as one.

Makes me laugh all these R5 boys who think they are quick when its only cause they arent on a level playing field.

Dont get me wrong, there are some cool little 5's out there that ive got plenty of admiration for the owners of, they just arent as quick as all the renault boys try and bang on about.

Get one of them to enter TOTB on road legals and see what happens to him

Not sure what we are supposed to be impressed by?

Its a non road legal drag car that runs 11s.

From what you say the guy hasnt
touched the engine, so no different cam or headwork etc?
touched the gearbox
bothered to strip it

So he hasnt really put much effort in for us to praise him for really has he

I just found this...

'fantastic day for us 11.85@121 and 1.9 60 ft still on 150 shot of gas so there is yet more to come and we drove it home which was a bonus
'

Thats your mates Corsa

It ran a 1.9 60ft

'That' 5 ran a 1.9 60ft also...

But did a faster time (11.4) and a faster terminal..(124)

I may be back in an hour, I just need to do some complex calculations to find out which is the faster car...

Hmm let me see:
"we drove it home which is a bonus"

And your mate with the 5 couldnt cause his wasnt road legal?

I'd say then at a push the corsa is the faster road car?

So you wont be needing your calculator after all

Nope, clever eh..?

Standard head, standard valves, ports - untouched
Standard bottom end, liners, rods crank etc..
Standard inlet and exhaust manifolds
Standard Carburettor with standard venturi just re jetted
Standard ignition unit running factory timing
Piper 300 degree cam
Volvo 480 Single plate clutch
GT28R Turbo
Front mount intercooler
No NOS, or race fuel..

40psi BOOST!

The trick is in the rebuild. Fully balanced and rebuilt meticulously. Revs to 8000rpm.

The corsa manages the 1.9 60ft due to time spent on the suspension setup and getting it to launch properly.

The 5 does it cause he bolted some slicks onto a car that otherwise couldnt launch for toffee despite being lighter than the corsa probably.

I just dont see what you find so impressive about:
fit some slicks
wind the boost up massively

run a slow time for a non road legal car.

If he goes away and gets the suspension setup properly so he can manage a 1.9 or better 60ft on road tyres and hence still run 11s in road going trim like should be possible THEN it would be impressive as a road car IMHO

Just bolting on slicks is a bodge IMHO

Congratulations, by piling a load of boost into a blueprinted engine he has made some power that he cant put down without slicks.

Well done

WTF?
Just cant see what point you are trying to make here, its a drag car that doesnt go very quickly, why are you comparing it to fast road cars?

If you get a load of people behind it to give it a good push, it may just get a head start on that Renault...

What are you on about, this is a road car with a pair of slicks 'not a drag car' - you make it sound like an all out racer???

My point is, both the corsa and the 5 did the same 60ft, yet the 5 crossed the line sooner and with a higher terminal..

That advantage was not by the slicks, so the 5 is the faster car. My cat, who is sitting next to me is nodding in agreement, so even he gets it..
