Default My Day to Day Car - VW Bora - Polished up with new wheels!!

As some of you know I wrote off a wheel on my VW Bora at New Year by entering a rather large pothole....

See here.... https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...asc&highlight=

Anyway - many months on I've finally got a new set of wheels after running round on 2 x 16" steelies & 2 x 18" alloys - dragster stylee.

I'd originally ordered a set of 18 x 8J fronts & 18 x 9J rears - Rial Nogaro's but due to my supplier, & their suppliers letting me,them down after a 13 week wait I canceled my order & bought these instead - 18 x 8.5J Ace 132 alloys.

I wasnt overly keen on them on the car when they had been fitted but now they are growing on me - think they look better with the 11mm spacers on the rear giving them the wide, euro, staggered look.

Anyway - I'm off to Awesome GTI tomorrow to have a full 4 Wheel Alignment so I thought I'd give her a clean & a polish this evening.

Whaddya think guys???? I've already lowered it 30mm - I reckon another 10mm mightn't go amiss!!!

Now I can put my claim into the council & see if I get anything back!!!

Very nice
Is that chrome on the front standard?
The dark lights suit it too.

What's making you say they are wrong then - because they look ever so slightly stretched??? You go to most alloy wheel dealers / tyre shops & tell them you've got an 8.0J or an 8.5J wheel & they'll tell you that 225 is the correct width for the rim!!!

That's just the way of the modern tyre! The tread width on modern tyres is not normally what it should be anymore. I sent mine back because of this and ended up with a set of Fulda's!

And stop picking on my mate, or else you'll be gettin' a chinese burn from the pair of us

How many cars do you see with lowered suspension, full stainless exhausts, air filters etc etc etc from the factory!!!

Good job you don't live in Germany or Belgium - you seen the tyres they run on their rims....

...now thats stretched...mine looks perfect compared to that!!!

Keith has a point lee, if the tyre is stretched from bead to bead you loose lateral grip

235's on the back would have been a better choice

If you read my post you'll see that the wheels are 8.5J all round - so the tyres are identical in size at all four corners - just different manufacturers front/rear!!!

Jonno, your talking shit here....

Measure the bead inner to inner and get a size that fits that gap, you will not have the stretch effect there.....

Lee, looks cool btw and the stretch effect will add to lift of over steer, loads of fun

Indeed - does it look like a car were I'm gonna be arsed about 'lateral grip'....I mean come on!!!!

Keith - just had a thought - alot of cossie owners run 215 width tyres on 8J rims which you are saying is strictly incorrect!!!

AndyP - That looks PHAT - defo need to drop mine a bit more I think - I best be on the lookout for some 40mm springs!!! Oh & I they are a polished lip - not chromed either!!!!

Funny how i talk shit about tyres, but you have changed from your usual tyre brand to my tyre choice.

You cannot measure unmounted tyres from bead to bead, you can only go off the width of the traed as specified by the manufacturer.

A Toyo and an Eagle F1 245/35/17 is 220 mm wide! That is wrong.

A Fulda 245/35/17 is 245 mm wide. That is correct.

Lee has a 225 mounted on a 8.5j rim. 225mm is 8.75 inches, which should me more or less spot on for the wheel/ tyre combination.

Like i said it is down to the modern tyre companies and cost cutting that makes the same size tyre, different ACTUAL widths between manufacturers.

So Dingy have one of these ,

Now go and blow smoke up someone elses ass

Jonno, i haven't changed at all - they don;t make the toyo's and you said these were good.

They are a 225 and are a little large for a 8" rim (8 bead to bead)

The toyo's were at 225 were a better fit than the fulda 225 as a 215 is the correct tyre size.....BUT it has to be THAT size......so u need to measure both the tyre and the rim...

So why they

His tyres are stretched, end of.

No shit!! Well spotted

Because.........

The toyo's were at 225 were a better fit than the fulda 225 as a 215 is the correct tyre size.....BUT it has to be THAT size......so u need to measure both the tyre and the rim...
Like i said it is down to the modern tyre companies and cost cutting that makes the same size tyre, different ACTUAL widths between manufacturers.

See if this makes it any easier for you toy understand;

For example 225/40/18

225 is tread width in mm, so 225 mm wide
40 is height of sidewall as a percentage of width, so 40 % of 225.
18 is the diameter of the bead on the wheel.

SO A 225 TYRE SHOULD BE 225mm WIDE YOU FUCKIN TWAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But they're not all the same hence Lee's problem, which isn't actually a problem, and he's happy with it and thats all that matters.

You can't measure the bead of a tyre unless it is inflated, and when it is inflated you can't measure it either. So bollocks.

I for one can, but you on the other hand may struggle.

Your eyes are covered with rose tinted glasses.

Your brain is on a different wavelength, and hence about as much use as a knob to a nun, and the longest rule that you have is only 6" long, which in itself is rather too long to measure anything you may want to keep in your pants

And before you start my cock can fill a pram
