first wins for the merc
little update for anybody interested,
my merc 190e evo2 did the two rounds of silverstone track and race yesterday,
my co drive greg rose needs his licence upgraded for spa in june so i let him use my car to give rod burley some competition,
in case you did not know he has one of the quickest escort cosworths in the country,
with over 550 bhp and all kevlar panels from rear quarters to the doors,
so must be the lightest as well
his record is over 400 wins to date so he can peddal well,
qualifing was a very stage 9am start which ment no rubber down and a cold track,
but with only 2.5 litres and no turbo lol and giving away nearly 200 bhp
the merc qualified 2nd 0.5 sec off burleys time,
first race was an exsperience as it was a standing start, so from 2nd to six by the first corner as greg was carefull off the line as i said dont brake the diff! as it did rolling starts in DTM and the car is not geared for standing starts.
with the bit in the teeth greg was 2nd with in two laps and chasing hard on burley who had been allowed to get away as greg had to pass the quicker starters who can get off the line with four wheel drive,
with only a nine minute race to have such a lead was to much to get back but he managed to get within 2.2 sec by the flag, and set a fastest lap off 102.658 compared to burleys best off 102.279
average lap speed off 94.17 MPH with burley setting 94.74
right time for the second race 14 minutes this one,
this time burley from pole missed a gear and got swomped and was fith into the first corner, and greg again being carefull off the line managed to get second behing a very fast escort cosworth, which was third in the first race,
greg was held up for most of the first lap behing the escort so burley soon was there again,
and allmost as soon as greg got the lead burley was infront again,
with all his might he again was 2nd once more but this time did get past burley a couple of times just to be powered by down the straights,
burley having to set a personal best lap time to fend greg off,
with 101.609 and the merc set a lowely 101.764
burley was 95.77 MPH lap average best and merc 95.53 MPH
so we knew they where closely mached,
after the race burley had the two wins again but had to work the hardest for a long time,
where as we where just there for the licence upgrade,
so i had greg srubb inn a new set of three hour indurence slicks which we are useing for brit cars,
burleys tyres where nackered by the end of race two, when are ones where just coming in with gregs best lap on lap 14 on a 15 lap race!
it also was noted that we never fueled the merc all day to the reply was that we had 75 litres in from the last race and felt greg would get a better feal for the car with brit car arec start fuel levels in.
so it was no supprised that as he burned off fuel in qualifing and the first race he was getting quicker during the day,
drained the bag tank when i got home to find 35 litres still left so atleast we know exacly how much it does to the litre,
it was great day out at silverstone and with two seconds we still got two first in class, and we raced in class B to the protests of other drivers,
with comments like we where taking the piss, so we said let rod
burley check the car himself and he said its class B where as greg said he did not care as we where only testing anyway.
burley was hoping to be useing his tyres for the next race as well but after the pace they where now scrap, he alo had to run qualifing boost all day to keep infront, where as he normally only uses low boost,
beats polishing the cars in the garage, i would recoment anyone who can race to have a go,
next race race for the merc is snetterton 13th and 14th may 3hr race so i get another go to drive myself
