Cosworth Dry Sump conversion........
Does anyone on here use a dry-sump conversion, not too fussed about the brand, but good honest advice would be much appreciated
This is looking a viable option in the E30 conversion due to the bmw sumps being backwards (IE, the well for the sump is at the front of the engine, rather than the rear like on a YB)
So all information and advice please

True a custom sump would be cheeper, but the car will be used for a lot of track days all being well, aswell as fast road abuse A custom sump is a nice option, but its a lot of pissing about with measurements and the like, whereas a dry sump is a bolt on affair
Once the engine is ready to go into the car, i'll look into the viability of each option a lot more

Fook me Brom there is some unions on that sump lol
What are the gains of running dry sump except surge on track and does it affect oil pressure lower / higher ?
Regards Doug .

you can fine tune oil presure ie 60 psi at idle or less
never have oil leaks as the engine is runnin in a vacume even on full boost
i got better set up now running a stage 4 pump cost a forunte in arp fittings n pipe work the engine bay alown cost me Ł1000 to pipe up on oil only

I have it on my engine, it's custom made with a Auto Verdi drysump pump. I don't have any pics now, but I can post that when I get my engine back from my tuner.

Four port pace kit is what I will use
Brom - What size tank is that and are you now scavenging from the turbo ?
Have you retained the standard breater on your engine or blocked it off completely ?
Cheers,
WD

i got 3 scaveneng set up
1 turbo
1 bottom of sump
one from the head
you dont run a breather the idea of system is to be totally sealed crankcase
you do fit a safty valve with a spring set to 6psi whch in case of a holed piston or blow up the crank case wont presurise the valve opens and vents the air out

there is no presure beacuse the pump suks air n oil mix out of engine at a great rate
the catch tank beathes on its own
the engine has to be totaly sealed everthing blanked off
i will post a pic up of my new engine n pipe work

can anyone help ?
maybe someone on here can advise me then,
i bought the running gear from a friend, i saw it run and even followed it for a few miles on one outing, so i know it didnt smoke before it was removed.
the engine sat in his garage for 2 years till i bought it,
i put it in the e30 and am getting massive clouds of what looks like black smoke when i get back on the gas after backing off or slowing down!
almost no smoke on boost, but even if i drive normally and come off the gas while slowing down, the first time i touch the accelerator i get a big cloud of smoke out the back ! ive changed the turbo and its no different.i fitted a bailys breather system and no change either.
my mechanical hostory is telling me valve stem oil seals or giudes but it was fine before it was removed and sitting in a garage for 2 years shouldnt screw the guides or seals should it ?

Whilst on the subject of dry sumps and the installation procedures do ALL the takes offs inc the original oil cap need blanking off ?
I've seen them done both ways and always always been curious of the correct answer for this.
