Default Need some advice

I have a small problem that is escalating into a larger problem.

Basically I'm building a car on behalf of a mate and about a year ago he brought a load of parts of a mate of mine (who I have now fallen out with) I got everything I needed except for the exhuast system as that was still in use on his car for a a bit until he finished breaking the car up.

Anyway I have been asking for 6 months now for this exhaust and had no result, the bad mouthing and abuse has gone on so much I really can't be arsed to sort it out myself as I've had enough and really its not my exhaust, problem is my mate who I'm building the car for lives 250miles away so he cant exactly pop up to sort it out.

I have basicaly now been told to get fucked, I wont be getting the exhaust end of,

If this was you what would you do ?

I can't break into the garage where it is kept as I'll have the police round here within minutes, he's not exaclty a small bloke so I'd only approach him with a bat and once again I'll get a visit of the Police immediately.

Before anyone thinks, fuck me its only a exhaust, it was custom made by Matt Simpson and its worth nearly £450 just for the system.

Some advice would be handy as I need to know how to approach this correctly

Thanks

Ok, sound advise that,

I suppose the attitude to have would be fuck it, however I think if someone took £400 of your money you would have a different attitude to it.

I'm more interested in where I stand (or my mate whos exhaust it is) with getting it back legally, there was obviously no receipt, however person in question was paid by bank transfer although note added only said car parts.

I'm not a solicitor nor do I know one or know much about the law, that is maybe the advise i'm looking for

No way of you two blokes sorting this bitchfight out ?

The guy who I'm building the car for only knows the fella through me, so not much chance he can talk him round as he has quite simply been told where to go too.

I think its got quite past a bitchfight now, not really a lot I can do, I think tbh the car is going to end up with a drainpipe as a exhaust to get it on the rollers !

Judging on the lack of legal advice from on here I'll just leave it for a bit and hopefuly within the next month something will show up,

PS Forgot to say thanks for the bumper Adam

not a lot you can do really mate.

i would probably just nick it, make sure you have an alibi and stash it at a mates place. if he's gonna be an arsehole then you're gonna have to play dirty - legally you dont have a leg to stand on

I dont like people who take the piss like this

he owes you the exhaust of the cash back simple.

Why not have a quick word with a solicitor - might cost you a couple of quid but get a letter to him from them
Take him to the small claims court.

Can you prove he was paid ? ie cheque rather than cash?

Thanks for the replies

My mate paid the guy by Bank transfer, so there is a receipt as such just not exactly for the exhaust itself.

I was curious wether I should atleast see a solicitor and try to take it to a small claims court although I assume it is for my mate to do as it wasn't me that purchased it.

Thanks Dangerous for that advice

Other options mentioned are also worth considering although taking the exhuast then hiding it wont be much use as I need it within a month but cheers

For now I'll leave it up to my mate to try and sort out over the phone, IF he gets no where then we'll more than likely try a solicitor

Agreed, I'll make him go through his statements to check everything, I have hand written prices for what my mate owed at the time although there hardly what you could call proof but they are something

Thanks again
