Anyone know of a cheap lappy for sale?
I know this ain't the FOR SALE section, but just want to pick the members brains in case anyone knowns of a cheap lappy for sale...
I could do with a cheap (as in, £50) lappy Don't have to be the latest gear, or even that decent a spec either - basically all I want it for is to use as a glorified MP3 player!
It's go replace the uber-tired old skool hifi behind my drums, so I can put my MP3 collection onto the lappy, and plug a pair of headphones into it for playing along to, and recording on....
It's needs to be half decent, as in 10-20gb HDD, capable of running on XP, and have at least 1 USB port, and preferrably 256mb or more RAM, but other than that it don't have to be super posh. Not fussed about DVD drives, or CD Writers (would be usefull of course), or if it has wifi (don't need it) or even if it has a modem (don't need it), or video out etc....
Most of all it needs to have onboard sound and graphics, a USB port and be reliable - not fussed if it holds charge as it can be plugged into mains all the time....
Anyone know of anyone?
Ebay is cack for low spec lappys - already looked, and they are either over priced or new spec and very dear....

Should think the only thing you will get for £50 is a kiddies VTECH one
You have to be looking at about £150 for what you want.
Then again, I sold a Packard Bell Duron 700 for £80 to a mate a few months back.

Adam - tried it, no good. I need something with more scope for audio output's, and with a lappy I can get either a USB or PCMCIA soundcard like this;
Which will let me plug into a proper amp and send and return from a mixing desk......
BlackRSTFife - bit out of my price range pal, specially if I need a new HD aswell....

All I need is : about 500mhz P2, 256mb RAM (128 would do) 10gb HDD, on board sound, USB, PCMCIA and a CD-ROM drive.... Don't care about screen size, wifi, or any of that shit. I don't care it if can't run XP as I will just load up 98 or Win2k (have discs for both), and I don't care what gfx card is has or hasn't, so long as it can run Windows Media Player thats all that counts!

Trouble is mate (im no computer person) but when i was looking for cheapy laptop ones for £100-£150 was VERY poor. I need half about for uni work so had to put it of and just saved up for a bit. Ended up get VERY good spec HP on with 1GB ram etc etc from Tiny the week before they went bust! pmsl was soo lucky as they was selling this laptop at least £150 cheaper than anywhere else at the time. Just save up for a bit mate deffo worth it, as cheap laptops are so slow! i would end up throwing it through a window then i would have to buy a new one so would be money down

I appreciate that Rhys, but slow isn't likely to be a problem - it's probably never gonna be connected to the net, it won't even have Office installed on it, won't be used for any kind of photoshop type programme, won't ever have PDF reader on it etc.... All it needs to have is Windows Media Player on it and enough HDD space for me to load my MP3 collection onto it.
At the end of the day all I want to use it for is as a posh MP3 player. If it was capable of running a sound recording programme then that would be a bonus aswell.
I could buy an MP3 player for £30 but then I would only get 1gb, maybe 2gb at the most, storage, and I would need a headphone amp aswell to go with it. To get a 6gb MP3 player is gonna cost a ton on it's own, and I could do with more space than that to be fair...
It's a shame, as I had an old laptop kicking around for a while, cost me £50 a few years ago. Wasn't anything special, only had a 2gb drive, and no sound, but I could have added a 10gb drive for £20 and a sound card for £30 and been sorted..... But it went tits up on me a few months back and wouldn't boot up, and refused to let me reinstall an OS
So I took it apart
