Speed Camera's

What happens if you go past a Gato, speeding, but on the opposite side of the road to what the camera is on? Can it still get you?

no you wont get done.

mk2rstaff Apr 11, 2006 11:49 AM

they are designed to get the rear of the vehicle mate so bikes dont get away with it :)

BlueSmoke Apr 11, 2006 11:52 AM

Wait a minute. Were you travelling towards or away from the camera? If the camera was facing the direction you were going, then yes, it can get you.

EssexBoyRacer Apr 11, 2006 12:30 PM

from what I understood he was saying that the camera was positioned to capture motorists comming in the other direction.

As he passed it it went off but this would have captured a picture of his front plate as he would have been facing the camera.

That said even if they did get the plate they still dont prosecute on comming cars with gatsos.

Agreed. I've set some off myself before as other people went past it on the other side of the road!

Gatso's can only capture the rear of a vehicle by flash photo by LAW - you're thinking of the Truvello which is forward facing

I mean you are driving, and its on your side of the road with the lines. You swerve onto the other side of the road where this not another camera or any lines, would it still be able to capture you?

This is all hypothetical of course

EssexBoyRacer Apr 11, 2006 03:53 PM

lol, u'll probably get away with it cause there are no lines to back up the prosecution.

But you'll probably have to contest it.

adamS2RST Apr 11, 2006 03:55 PM

And just get done for dangerous driving being on the other side of the road

BlueSmoke Apr 11, 2006 03:56 PM

I was right then :p

If there's no lines you might get away with it, but they might just point to the adjacent lines and do you.

To be honest I question the mentality of anyone who speeds past a camera on the wrong side of the road, thinking they'll get away with it :?

They might also give you a friendly dangerous or wreckless driving charge for that

Muzz Apr 11, 2006 03:57 PM

But will it even flash?

Was debating this at work you see.

i think you will find you have to pass over the loop detector that is cut into the road surface as you approach the camera to set it off. on a 2 way traffic road the loop is on the side of the camera.on a dual carriage way the loop covers both lanes. :D

Ex-Finesse Apr 11, 2006 10:50 PM

Take ya rear plate off and try it one night! :top:
