He was a twat for going over there in the 1st place. Did more harm than good.
I don't think they should have given him the time of day. Even if his captors had let him go and rang up the army to say pick him up, they should have told them to make the old shite hitch-hike home.

He's a silly old bastard who should have had the fucking brains not to have gone out there in the first place.
Prick. If he'd have got his head cut off it'd have been his own poxy fault. Wasted the time and resources of how many people to get his sorry ass out ?
Wanker.

should not have been there.
i think its a bit like when people go up a big fook off mountain with a vest and shorts on etc...and then they need rescuing.
they all just need to sit down and think of what might happen and are they prepared for the worst.
Same as the 'do-gooders'.
cannot do this, cannot do that....look at the way this country is going.
some people just have not got a clue what the fook is going on!

Does seem an odd chap. But then I suppose you have to be a little blinkered or of an unusual mindset to visit Iraq as a civilian anyway. Regardless of your good intentions.
However, I do wonder if theres an element of Stockholm syndrome going on there.
Fuzzy, re the legal issue. As long as our Troops behave as we would expect them to, they will be OK. If they get daft (like certain parts of the US Army clearly have) and start shooting unarmed civilians. I would prefer it if they didnt seve in our Forces. As it tarnishes the reputation of everyone. Which conversely puts the rest of our people at risk as it increases anti UK sentiment amongst the local population.

As much as I agree with him being an ungrateful old bastid, he's an Englishman at the end of the day, even if its a daft one he's still worth saving from what can possibly be the worst way to die imaginable.
But to go out there at his age he must have a tile out in the first place, I can think of many places I'd like to be at 70 odd, a war zone isnt one of them

Ultimately, no one persons life is "worth" more than anybody elses. However in the same way that Kember decided he would accept the risk by going to Iraq. Anybody in the Forces should understand they may end up injured, or worse, in the line of action. If you don't want that risk, dont join up.

I agree with the general sentiments of this thread ie, the he shouldn't have gone out there in the first place. By doing so he was only putting his own life and any potential rescuers lives in jeopardy. There are a lot of westerners in Iraq, most of those are there cos they can earn a lot of money in short time. I think that unless he had a good reason for being there, then he should have been prevented from going in the first place.
Whether I agree with our troops being out there is another matter but what it does show is that all the members of the forces out there are bloody heroes, no way I would want to be in their shoes.

All I said was just cause he made the foolish decision to go out there doesnt disqualify him from being rescued, He's still one of our own at the end of the day, and even if he is a bit of a fool I wouldnt wish him death by decapitation a la rusty bread knife like the others
