Default Is this legal and right? (legal gurus views please)

I started a new job a few weeks back as a store manager. Theres loads of cameras in the store and office etc. Only place that dont have em, is the bog and canteen.

The cameras i was told could be viewed by anyone at head office at any time to see what me or the staff were doing. This wasnt in my contract. I am not too bothered as i aint dishonest.

What DOES shock me is the fact that these cameras pick up sound and conversation etc. I was not told this at all . I only found out today by accident

Thing is is it illegal or against the law to be doing this?

I would imagine that as long as you have been notifed it is happening ( or sign posted around the place ) they arent doing anything wrong.

Indeed, the staff must know that these can record conversations

If anything was to be used as evidence - this would then be turned on the company for not disclosing the information up front

I'd check your contract to see if it's listed - if not, I'd be very aware what any member of staff could do or say to affect the company - could turn ugly
