Default Rst cylinder heads

Right the head on my 3i has cracked and im on the hunt for another head. However after scanning over ebay and all the normal places it occured to me that some of the rst heads ive seen look identical to my cracked head. Rounded ports, same casting numbers etc. I was just wondering are xr3i heads and rst heads interchangeable? Obviously the cams would have to be swapped but would compression be ok?
Cheers

depends what 3i you have.
if its a none EFI version (which it looks like from your sig pic) then yes the head will be the same design as ERST RST.

orion 1600i head same, and early XR2 heads (before 86)

Sounds good. So there wont be any bad compression/running problems? As long as the correct cam is used then all should be sweet?

its the same design mate should be fine.

id even be tempted to just change the cam pulley(they have a 2 letter stamped code on them and are likely to be different) and leave the cam etc in if you find a head with everything still together.

as disturbing the followers etc can cause the cam to wear.

have you taken the cam and followers out of your old engine yet? if so have you marked which position they go in?

RIGHT as was said though thats totally true, the head are the same, as are the cams ect, just the pullys are different,,,,,,,, the EFI heads are NOT the same as erst heads BUT the frst heads are the same as efi xr3i heads

hope that helps, dont touch the cams as they are the same too

ah right! spotted ginge!
shit! lol - i made a school boy error - saw the pic of the block/pistons they look like HEMI ones I.e. old design CVH!
used to fiesta, old design means old head.

but on escorts the injection engines carried on with the old design

xr2i or FRST head then if you have the EFI engine in your XR3i.

(for info the inlet ports have cut out for the electronic type fuel injectors on the later design which you need)

cause i stacked my old car and the engine survived and i didnt want it to go to waste, lol . So found a 1.3 shell, stripped it bare and chucked the engine and loom in. Was a really simple conversion tbh.
Ive got some pics lying about, ill dig them up and sort something out in the resto area

btw the efi conversion is even easier mate cause the engine loom is seperate to the main loom,,,,,, unlike a j-jet car so you must be a skilled chappy
