Trolley jack won't lift high enough

Hello all,
I have a 2001 Mondeo,
I was going to change my brake pads and disc's earlier.
i used a trolley jack (brand new, although a cheap Aldi one) to raise the car, but even on it's maximum height, the wheel remained on the ground,
now i know it could be the trolley jack simply not lifting high enough, but i'm beginning to suspect something is broke.
i also used the standard jack which the car came equipped with , and even though that seemed to raise the car higher,
i still had the same problem, the wheel remained on the ground,

can anyone help !

Thanks,

Neil.

put a block of wood between the jack and the car or put a paving slab unde the jack.

ultimately the problem lies within it being a cheap jack.

Would have thought the standard one would do it. Have you lowered the car? Could be summit with the suspension, don't the likes of the big 4x4 have a strap round the springs for the same reason...

It hasn't been lowered,
was wondering if it could be a fault with the shock absorber !?
if i get the chance tomorrow, i will try the opposite side and rear of the car.

Thanks.

The stock jack is mechanical anyway....right?!

That should lift the car high enough to allow a wheel change..
if it doesnt, and its at maximum extension, there could be something amiss!

Definitely lifting on a good point and not the passenger floor pan? As that'll just sink in and push the floor up

you have to laugh at the std scissor type jack you get with cars they are all a joke and fookin dangerous

use the manufacturer supplied to see if you can lift up the car to do the job, but do not trust it! see if you can borrow or get an axle stand.

You can get a £20 trolley jack from tool station and that lifted a freelander off the floor to do pads and is was sitting on 18" wheels. Get a proper one not a cheap one

May be the jack is short of oil=ing faulty item(take it back)
