Default dead cossie

hi

i think my saff cossie was written off tonight , but will have to contact the insurance company in the morning to let them know all about it and to find out its fate.
i had just pulled out of my nans drive way when some t*** in a nissan micra slamed me in the side , then quickly reversed went up on the pavement nearly running a chap over and went of down the road, i gave chase to see were he went but i lost him .
went back to see if the chap that nearly got killed was all right and called the old bill who said they would be there asap 2 1/2 hours later no-one, went down the police station to report it and it turnes out the car had been dumped just down the same road as it happened in someones front garden.
the damage to my car as far as i can see is nsf+ nsr door, sill,b post, back wing, slight kink in roof and poss floor damage.
my witness reckons the mirca was doing about 60mph and skidding when he crashed.
the main think is all 4 of us got out ok aprt from a few bruises.
does anybody know what you have to do when telling the insurance company.

Well you're in a pretty bad situation there mate!

As you have no other party to claim from, I believe that payout comes from some kinda insurance fund. I think it's one of the reasons insurance is so expensive, money from each premium goes toward the fund to pay for c**ts who drive around uninsured and have accidents. I think the downside is you have to pay something like the first £300 and payout may be less than you deserve.

I could be wrong as I am going from my rubbish memory with snipets of info I remember from when my car was hit about 3 years ago by an uninsured git.

Good luck though, you're in for a long one mate.

what about the car itself?
the micra i mean
was it insured or not?
if it was then you should be able to claim from the insurance company that covered it, if it was stolen then they would still be liable to pay out

if it's not insured then you may be up shit creek

then again, you could always try and calim from one of those no win no fee types
had a lorry reverse into my car while it was parked up, driver gave out the details and i went to someone who dealt with the bodywork
my insurance comapny wasn't informed at all as it was all done out of the lorry drivers insurance (obviously someone knows it's happened but as it was all out of my hands i dind't have to do anything other than sign for the car they bought round)

on the other hand, my mate got royally stiched up by his insurance comapny when someone t boned him a few years back
the car took 3 months to fix (it was a fiat coupe) and he had a hire car NOT from the garage fixing his car
it eventualy cost him his no claims but they had asked for 9 grand!!!

whatever you do, make sure you get everything in writing

from the pics it looks fairly easy to repair

the main problem will be to get the doors open, once the pop you may find that the body will spring back into shape and it will need minimal jigging

is the car driveable?
has the windscreen cracked?
can't seen a sunroof so that means a bit more strength, they normally bend in the middle at the rear of the roof so good news from the pics you've posted
the floor damage may just be a sill with the skirt covering it up

looks a bit fcuked i know, but it doesn't look like a write off, on the other hand, it looks like it may have JUST moved the A piller as well

another bit of advice i learnt from the bodyshop was to put the car oon a 4 wheel laser alignment gadget before you start taking bits off
you can then measure these against known stats to find out how/if you've twisted something impoartant
when you put it back together again you can make sure the measurements are back within the proper specs

good luck

hi
it turns out the micra was of the road for a while and the registered keeper then sound it on to 2 asian lads or so he says.

i showed it to a chap i know thats a body shop manager and he said it was to far gone and would require a body shell.

looking at it in the day light the front wing slighty out of shape,A post took some shock, Bpost twisted(pushed right into the seat),both doors(cant even open the rear one) back wing, bumper, sill, floor, quite badly kinked roof and its even cracked the bootlid around the boot lock inside.

thankfully i am fully comp, the bodyshop is ment to be coming to take it away and leaving a car.

if i was you,id buy it back of the insurance company? You'll make the money back from selling your leather, wheels, engine ect..... Or even swap it over to another shell.

if you want to keep the car DON'T let the garage take it away, unles it's a mate of yours
once they get their hands on them, they know what the insurance company will sell the car for and then they'll flog the bits themselves back to you for extortionate prices

I have a 2wd saph cossie shell for sale, not mint, front x member is a bit rusty, rear arches have a small amount of bubbling and it needs sills, but its a genuine cossie shell and it'll be cheap cos i want it gone from that garden, has windows in it and it'll have the doors on it too, but no running gear, and the loom has been chopped about. log book hasnt come back in my name yet but it has been sent off and the car is HPI clear

im in essex just off the M25/A12 junction

get in touch at

popuptoaster@gmail.com

if your interested, but dont hang about cos im gonna finish stripping it this weekend if the weather is ok and the girl who's garden it in is gonna start hassling me to shift it, id rather it didnt go to the scrappy full of old wheels and stuff but thats what'll happen otherwise.

hi
thanks for all the replies, the insurance company has written the car off and said im not able to buy it back as its classed as a cat b and fit for parts only. (vehicle breakers only)

i put the insurance claim in on the 29th dec, they came out and had a look at the car and phoned with price on 10th jan and then they paid out on the 23jan so just under a month. which is not to bad throught it would take longer

just waiting for the salavge company to come and collect, and get a new toy

any idea where they are taking it mate?

if it's a normal breakers it might be worth popping in for some bits

more than likely it'll go to someone who knows what they are though, who will make millions off of it

at least you got a result, but have you made a claim from the other cars insurance?
