Just wondering about this? anyone from USA with one?

I'm used to see Americans with big V8's and so on, so I'm just wondering how cosworths (esc or sierra) are seen in the states.

Only a handful of us have Cossies in America. They were never offered in America. The ones that are here have been imported in, through odd channels as they don't necessarily meet America's stringent laws regarding bumper/body standards nor do they meet emission standards.

As for Sierras, we were offered only one model. They were renamed 'Merkur XR4Ti" rather than Ford Sierra XR4Ti. As you may have guessed, it was a rebadged, modified Ford Sierra XR4i with a Mustang/Thunderbird turbo engine, rather than the Cologne V6. It was marketed as an upmarket "European Ford" with the promise of BMW performance w/ a flair.

They are seen as oddball cars, at first disliked for it's grill-less look, additional piller, big bumpers, and intially their double-winged spoiler. However, there is a cult following here, and nowadays are considered quite good-looking, esp. when outfitted with Cosworth body parts.

They were all offered with air con, power steering, 5 speed and 3-speed automatic. Leather mostly and most had sunroofs & leccy windows. Some of the later models even came with cruise control (on the stalk - i'm considering retrofitting it in my Cossie).

Escort Cosworths were brought in by a company called Sun International. They "legalized them" and allowed them to be imported. To date, they're only about two dozen of them here. The Escort here is considered a cheap, bad car, so believe it or not, many Escort Cozzie owners remove the Escort moniker off their cars, in order for people not to consider it just a "cheapo Escort" with a bodykit.

It's just like I thought it was. Anyway I didn't know that are so few cosworths in the USA.

It's interesting to see how diferent ppl from diferent places in the world see cosworths

For instance, in Portugal, if you mention Cosworth, Escort or Sierra, imediatly you get something like: Great Car! But most ppl can't tell you the diferences between a Sierra 1.6GL and a Sierra RS Cosworth lol

All the others that knows what a Cosworth is, say Cosworth (if it's a Sierra or Escort Cosworth) or just Sierra or Escort if it's not.

I've already tryed that with the blue 3dr I 've posted here before. I took the car for paiting and tailwing was off. At 80KM/h when I tryed to acelerate it just start to spin and nothing, didn't go any faster

I wonder what is like to drive it without the wing at 200Km/h eheh

btw, some idiot came the other day and asked me: is that a 1000cc?

My clever reply was: NO! it's a 1100cc

but in general, people older than 25 knows what a Cosworth is if it's a 3dr, but for sapphire they don't have a clue.

I get similar things way down here in New Zealand.
There's around 50 or less Cosworths here and pretty much everyone under the age of 25 doesn't have a clue what they are or their history.

i was actually amazed at an american KNOWING what my old saff was! he llived next door to us for a year and was a missionary (spreading the word etc) as i was cleaning it he came over and started talking cosworth! i was sooooo shocked! and the yanks do have SOME nice motors! and some evil engines!
