tyres rubbing

i have rs focus wheels on my 2wd sapphire cossie and they rub quite alot under boost and with passengers. i changed what looked to be the standard springs to some others i had that cme with a koni package but altho the car sits alittle lower and it is stiffer they still scrub ( on rears tho ). they dont rub on the lip, they go right up onto the inner arch. need some help as i dont realy wanna change the wheels.

cheers guys :top:

might be rubbing on the springs if you have coilovers in the rear. or the shock.

after that I really dont know what you would be rubbing on. pull the wheel off and see where the rub marks are on the tire and on the inner fender..

RS focus wheels have a deep backspacing from what I remember 41 or so.

How you go about doin that m8?

boost mad 02-07-2005 02:20 PM

it mainly scrubs on the right hand side at the back, i have had the plastic arhes out thinking it was those, but it wasnt. it scrubs right up the top on the left which is because it is to low or wheels to big but on the right its on the outside edge of the inner arch where it dips down fo the door shut if u get that but it only scrubs that bit on the right side..... how bizarr

sounds to me the frame or the rear are not aligned any more.

i think the same as Turboflush.

lift rear end up, take off your wheels and do some measuring.

boost mad 02-07-2005 09:08 PM

what wud i measure to and from?

cheers for the help guys :top:

you basically want to check for squareness. measure in a box and across to each corner. Or take it to a frame shop. they will be able to check it. they might be able to straighten it also.

how much power are you putting out?
this might be why it is bent.. then again I dont hear this problem from the sierra crwod so much. Mustangs have this problem alot because the frame is built in two pieces with the shell being the middle.

again, as turboflush sayed.

i would take the car to the frame shop, if i wasnt sure how to measure it. it doesnt cost so much, and if you are not surtain how to do the measuring, you cant be surtain if its aligned or not.
