Default Oil Consumption

Hey People,

My cossie 4x4 uses +- 0,8 Litre Oil on +- 620 Miles

Is that normal??? If not, what could be wrong?

Would it be possible that my turbo is worn?? The car smokes a bit wen I let the accelerator loose (after I give a max. turbo-boost)

The spec's:

- 803 greens
- 3 bar map.
- Motorsport sparkplugs
- Motorsport powercables
- K&N 57i GR A
- T03 Garret (original) Peak boost 22 PSI con. 19 PSI
- Garret -31
- Mongoose 3"
- Collins Chip
- Forge Breatherkit
- Bailey Headertank & Swirlpot
- Gr. A Gasket
- ARP Stud & Nuts
- Nomad Racing Dumpvalve

Please give me some advice! Thnx

Yea, my Sapph is a greedy oil monster too.

Similar specs to you Mr.Ford and uses a touch less than your does.

I also get the smoke when I put my foot down hard

i've concluded 1 thing in the last few months sinse owning mine, the only way to get a cossie not to use oil is not to drive the damn thing! anyone who says they don't have to top the oil up ever is lying!

My Sierra Cosworth 4x4 (with MSD 330kit) uses about 2,5 litre on 6,000 miles/10,000 km. Your car should use some oil and I believe Ford says up to 1 litre every 600 mile/1,000 km is okay.

However, there should not be any blue smoke from the car!!

You're right about what ford says...but

IF a car does use a bit oil, is has to smoke!

Because, how else did it looses his oil???

I think it's rather much, but if all the cossie-drivers have got the same useage then it will be normal I think

Mr.Ford is bang on there! if it's going to burn even the slightest bit of oil it's going to smoke to some extent. surely if ford say 1 litre to every 600 miles is acceptable on a standard engine then surely you should allow a little more for a engine running higher boost pressures etc?

either way until it's getting to a point where you are having to stop every 15 miles to top up just keep driving it

If you always have to put some oil in the engine, at the same time when you're going to refuel your petrol tank, then it's not funny

Hi,

Normal oil consumption is, maxi, 1 gramme by 1 hp by 1 hour.

Approximat. 1 % of fuel consumption, I think.

Regards

mine uses 1 litre every 300 hundred miles and it chuffs blue on vacuum overrun (backoff), ive been told that this is either turbo or valves guides being completely knackered, as i had the turbo rebuilt 3 thou ago it seems likely that my problem is valves guides, will report more as soon as ive had em fixed.

mine is less, it uses +- 0,8 litre per 1000km (sometimes its about 0,6-0,7)

But, I don't like the blue smoke (although it's not very much)

mmm. that's strange...

Did you already have some one that watched from the outside of the car when you give full trottle?

If your cossie uses Oil ,then it has to smoke (a little at least)

Not true, lost oil doesn't necessarily have to be burning off and causing smoking, if the ford breather system is struggling under full boost then it could just as easily be getting forced out through worn seals at the crank pulley or the camshaft seals, up through the distributor or blown into the air filter box. If the engine is overly wet or dirty underneath or particularly at the front behind the cam-cover, then this is where most of the lost oil is going

Oil consumption on Turbo built cars is normall. they are often built with a looseer ring gap. Diesels do the same. It just depends on how it is built!
I rather mine use a little oil every 600km then to have stuff break because it is to tight when it gets warm.
