Default Power wires

I'm having problems with 1 of the power wires. Theres 3 wires that come off the + side and run behind the battery over towards the fuse box. 1 thick wire and 2 smaller wires its 1 of the 2 small ones. When the problem wire is attached to the battery the battery shows no volts.

The smaller ones you refer to are the supply to the fusebox.

Usual problems here are the fusible links that build resistance.

As said they are a short thinner wire that is attached to the end of the main wires before tithe battery designed to blow/melt (fusible link wise)
Probably not many Cosworth’s left with the original fusible links on them as like yours the insulation has dried and crumbled.

I’m not sure what is the correct thing to replace them with and don’t know what the rating is as maybe you could just cut them off & replace them with a normal inline fuse & holder of the appropriate rating, I was lucky enough to get som original ones from ford when they was still in stock.

So you just replaced them with original wire . I removed the plastic to see what state the copper was in then just chopped it. Do you know what size of fuse would suit to run from battery to fusebox

I don’t think it is normal wire it must be graded in some way to blow like a fuse why they didn’t use a fuse I don’t know!
it was about 10yrs ago when I did mine so I would definitely say they are no longer available and can remember trying to find information on them then with no success, if you google fusible link wire there’s info about it but what size or rating you need maybe someone else will be able to put you in the right direction or a possible alternative solution.

Also can remember that the black wire insulation had the fusable rating written on them and think they were both different, but don’t quote me on that as it was 10yrs ago.

good luck

If you have not done so already, have a chat with Autodynamix on 01626 362692 - they make professional upgraded cables for RS Fords including Cossies. If they don't have something suitable in stock they will make one for you.
