Default 3dr head removal advice please.

Hi Folks,
My 3dr is blue smoking when I come down gears so I'd considered removing the head to have a look at valve guides etc...
I've searched and read that it could be turbo oil seals but it's had a rebuilt turbo in the past so I'm not sure until I've checked the intercooler pipes.
I know the car has a 200 block in there so I'm guessing It will have a studded block too...?
Is there any advice for removing the head? Am I best leaving the turbo and inlet manifold on or are these best removed?
Do I need to be under the car at all as getting it on a jack is a nightmare as it is so low.

Where do I look to see any markings on the block/head to denote what motor is has in there? It clearly isn't the original engine but I'm not sure about the head.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Mine used to smoke on over run and was both a tired turbo and badly worn valve guides.
Whats the spec to the best of your knowledge?

Hi, sorry for the delay.
To my knowledge it is around 270bhp via a map, RS500 intercooler, filter and exhaust.
I'll check the intercooler pipe when I can.
Thanks

It’s a mild spec so I’d be surprised if it was long studded, either way I’d remove both manifolds just to make access to all the pipes and connectors easier,
you don’t really need to go underneath so you should be fine

Thank you Paul!

Do you know the torque settings for the head or where I might get these?
There is a distinct lack of good quality workshop manuals for these cars.

Cheers
Richard

torque setting is specific to which type of head securing method you have.

lots of places on the web have cosworth workshop manuals available for free download (probably even on this forum!) but the torque info will relate to the stock bolts.

take it apart to determine what you have then ask again
