Default Wheel/shock- possibly of catching??

Hi all,

So fitted up the front wheel and I'm concerned it will catch the shock bottom.

There 17x7.5j with 215/40's on and by my calcs and the sellers description there et38.

pic attached at the bottom as best I could take.

Look very close if not touching once settled.

options I hope are just at a spacer to push them out??

cheers

Yeah, I would not be happy with that, I am sure someone on here removed the lip at the closest point but don’t know if that’s dodgy, might be better to add a small spacer?

When I bought the car it had 17" x 7.5j oz wheels from a pug on, thinking back that had spacers on.

I'd rather put spacers on, 10mm by the looks of it.

I think it would look nice like that with 10mm and if not have them machined down 2-3mm and try again.

There's enough room, I like the wheels to be inside the arch and not have to trim the arch lip.

Can you folks cast your eyes over this, the original specs of the 15" shark tooths are correct.

I think with these being face mounted it's changed the et??

looking at this then I'm 4.4mm closer to the strut....

you can cut the corner off the strut spring cup .ive done it in the past to fit 223/35/18 on a 4wd saff.

That’s how I saw it done and make sure no rough faces left. You might also consider a 5 mom shim spacer to push the wheel out

Yes straight across, but I welded a little piece straight across and painted up so looked proper and wouldn't draw attention in a mot etc

Are you sure you have the correct strut/knuckle combination? As I don't think it would normally be this close.

I know that if you use 2wd Cosworth struts with standard Sierra knuckles the lower spring platform is lower than it should be. Also on normal 2wd Sierra's there is less room than on a Cosworth.

I think it's the correct 4x4 set up.

The original wheels are ok, as had been the oz wheels. I'm thinking the wheels might be et35 not et38 as told but with the centre being moved to be face mounted its brought the barrel back the thickness of the centre.....

I think my sketch illustrates it....

I have koni front struts with 17x7.5 et 35 OZ Cronos old school alloys with 215/40/17 tyres and 35mm Eibach lowered springs and my tyres are not close like yours. Something is'nt right and I think if you drove it like that over some of the pot holes and uneven roads we have it could be dangerous.Mine is a 2wd Saff.

I'm in the garage now, any measures I can take off the strut etc to determine what's going off??

This is a 4x4 so I though most of the set up is slightly larger than 2wd.

Done the same on my 4x4 Sapphire. Cut, welded & painted. (excuse the crap quality pic, just managed to squeeze my phone in the gap to give you an idea.)

Looks good, just put 5mm shims on and done 20 odd mile on a mix of roads and had no catching, tyres are scuff free and the tape I put on the shock cup is in marked.......

think I'll do the same and cut a small part away......

I did wonder if the wheels had a different et...front & back and the seller didn't know??

but I'll deffo be doing something just to make sure of no catching...

oh the shock body is 50mm in diameter
