Cat vs mot
hi all my cossie is jan 1993 I suspect it should have a cat but it doesn’t though exhaust is clearly not standard
its never failed an mot for not having one but new rules says if it’s removed it’s instant failure now (word of mouth)
anyone else had issues? I don’t need an mot till may but getting worried!

We as testers have been able to fail a missing catalyst for a good few years now.
So I suggest taking it to you normal place And you should be fine.
K reg is on the borderline from memory. I will have a look at the flow charts.

Mine has not got a cat yet it passes the cat emissions due to closed loop.
Most testers are fair tbh esp with the older more interesting stuff.

Having a de-cat in itself is not a failure (or at least used to be the case) rather it's that emissions requirements will not be met without it.

If you had a engine from a 3dr cosworth it would have to meet the emissions standard for a 3dr

My 2wd Saff has been through 23 MOT tests since I have owned it, all done at the same place and passed every time despite many engine mods. They know the car and it always turns up nice and clean and I also think it makes a difference.

It doesn't need a cat, even if it is supposed to come with one originally as they were all produced before the cat legislation came into effect

also this
The cut off date is indeed 1st August 1992 AFAIK, but importantly, this is the manufactured date of the vehicle, and not as widely believed, the registered date.

i spoke with my garage and they didn’t seem too concerned to be honest, they looked on a data base and had no info on my car so said they could do a non cat emmision test
so think I’m ok!

So mine is a 2wd so no cat just proper mapping on closed loop.
Not bad for a genuine 95k engine.
easily pass for a cat 😺

Costina. Very low readings, is your engine standard? The closed loop must be good!
