Cat vs mot
hi all my cossie is jan 1993 I suspect it should have a cat but it doesn’t though exhaust is clearly not standard

We as testers have been able to fail a missing catalyst for a good few years now.

Mine has not got a cat yet it passes the cat emissions due to closed loop.

Having a de-cat in itself is not a failure (or at least used to be the case) rather it's that emissions requirements will not be met without it.

If you had a engine from a 3dr cosworth it would have to meet the emissions standard for a 3dr

My 2wd Saff has been through 23 MOT tests since I have owned it, all done at the same place and passed every time despite many engine mods.They know the car and it always turns up nice and clean and I also think it makes a difference.

It doesn't need a cat, even if it is supposed to come with one originally as they were all produced before the cat legislation came into effect

i read it’s 1/1/93 which means mine would need a cat and removal is instant failure whether it passes emissions or not my garage tells me.

So mine is a 2wd so no cat just proper mapping on closed loop.
Not bad for a genuine 95k engine.
easily pass for a cat 😺

Engine is completely standard apart from head gasket with 95k
T34.48 GrpA stage 2 turbo with cutback blades and a normal compressor housing.
55lb injectors
L8 Msd chip,coilpack,closed loop etc.
oh and 36psi peak boost.
