Default YB engine number

Hi,

I have a YB Cossie engine with a 205 block and need to know whether it came out of a 3 door or a Sapphire, and also the year of manufacture of the car it came out of.

The engine number is YBB 10108.

Is it possible to get this information?

Thanks in advance,

Dave😊😊

You can get the year of manufacture of the vehicle it came from, by reading the first two characters of the engine number
Mine is GA 11nnn which corresponds to the last 7 characters of the VIN of the donor car
In my case GA refers to November 1986
The number you quote isn't the engine number. I believe YBB relates to the engine type, in this case it would have been fitted to 3 door and early Sapphires (but I will stand corrected on that if wrong)
the actual engine number will be at the side of the engine down near the bottom of the block
Check your year code here - http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-gu...ure-dates.html

Thanks for that bigdel, thats the only stamped number I can find and is about 10mm from the top of the block on the front of the engine, just above the water pump pulley.
I do see on my own car that the chassis number tells me it is a July 86.
The reason I need the year of the engine is because it is a requirement for the nct(Irish mot) that the year of manufacture be known of the donor engine so as to determine what the emissions should be.
