Turbo to down pipe leak
For ages now I've had a leak on the exhaust between the turbo and downpipe. Tried loads of times to get it to seal but it always leaks at the bottom.
Thinking of fitting a flexi joint on the front of the system where it joins the down pipe as I think it will solve the issue. Anyone ever had this problem? |
What type of joint connection is it?
I think any newly made down pipe would have a flexi |
Down pipe is just the standard cossie set up.
Not sure I've ever seen a flexible joint on a cossie exhaust? |
No flexi's on cosworth exhausts.
Do you have pic, I assume your on std garret turbo T series turbo, with the 3 studs/nuts? They normally seal on the angle where the exhaust has 3 layers of material at the top, is there damage on that face? |
Yeah it's the standard 3 bolt flange arrangement.
The down pipe flange looks fine but no matter how carefully I try and make sure it's on square and the nuts are tightened evenly it leaks at the bottom After a short while I suspect it's the movement of the exhaust under the car causing it? Maybe it's just the connection between the system and downpipe being out of alignment so it eventually pulls the downpipe towards the rear of the car? (If the system is pushed too far onto the downpipe?) |
