Vibratechnics gearbox mount. Loud!
I'm slowly getting closer to MOT time, car is now on it's wheels and driven down the road a few hundred yards today.
I fitted a gear box mount as above during the refresh, it's pushed the gearbox up so it's making contact with the tranny tunnel and as a result is bloody noisy. I think it's the combination of that and the new engine mounts.
Was thinking of making up some 3-4 mm spacers to create a gap.
Anyone had similar issues and come up with a decent solution?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
It’s a while since I fitted my updated engine an gearbox mounts but didn’t have any trouble and definitely didn’t change the position of the box, this would of also changed the position of your driveshaft wouldn’t it? Which is also spaced at the bearing cradle.

I've got it back in bits now.
It's looks like the box isn't being drawn down far enough into the new mount, it's a taper fit so not much I can do about that.
I'm guessing that the new Collins engine mounts have also pulled the engine more upright than it was on the previous 29 year old factory mounts. Wasn't expecting to have any issues...

Now you mention it I also changed the aluminium tapered block that bolts to the gear box for the stronger billet version but I can’t see that making much difference as the angles should all be the same.

Found an old thread by Brammer, had the same issue.
Leading edge of new mount fouls on the gearbox mount bolts, have trimmed these off, slightly better but not perfect yet. Nice design oversight by Vibra Technics there.
At the transmission tunnel the shifter cover plate bolts are still fouling so need to sort this to stop the vibration transmitting.

Gearbox now clears the tranny tunnel (as it should), vibrations now back to acceptable levels.
The new mount had pushed the gearbox hard up against the tunnel, piss poor design IMO, certainly wouldn't buy another.

It’s been a while since I done mine but I know I had no issues which is strange! Didn’t have to trim anything either, I presuming it’s 2wd with the aluminium cradle? I can even remember measuring the prop tho make sure it ended up in the same position.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I have found that many so called "straight forward swap" new modified parts have to be fettled to make them fit. I wonder sometimes if the people that make and sell them have actually fitted them to make sure there are no problems.

The comp brake bias pedal box for the 205 that was "designed" for the 205 was a physical impossibility to fit without major modifications.

I have just fitted one of these to mine and have the exact same issue! How did you sort it in the end ? Space the cradle down ?

therefore see where it rubs and get the grinder out.
