Default Anyone know this 3dr Cosworth?

Hi Guys,

New to the world of 3dr Cosworths (I had a Sapphire years ago )

Does anyone know this car ? http://www.classicandsportscar.com/c...h-1987/7022124

Also, does anyone know of a link for what to look for when checking one over?

Thanks in advance

Todd.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - how can you tell the dash is different? I checked a few online and can't see the differences. Are these often switched ?

Thanks for any help

Todd.

The dashboard in a 3dr has a speaker in the centre and the dash is prone to cracking around the speaker so it's not uncommon to find a sapphire dash in a 3dr as a sapphire hasn't got the centre speaker. If your not to sure what your looking at I would strongly advise taking someone with you who knows these cars as they can hide a multitude of sins.

Thanks 3drRich. I'm due to view tomorrow so there won't be time to get someone to check it over. If I'm not sure I will walk away.

Swapping the dash does sound dubious, does it "encourage" a speedo change at the same time? I guess as long as the history backs up the mileage it's fine.

Any my other bits to look out for that I can check?

thanks!

Todd

If I'm honest it doesn't look amazing for the money. It's got a few bits like the inner wings that have been mentioned and things like the dash and also the seat mounts look quite rusty. The main things to look for on these really is rust, make sure you get a good look and feel around the inner and outer sills and arches as the kit does hide a lot of the rot. Also if you can pull the door rubber off at the bottom and pull the carpet away from the inner sill near the floor number And that rusty seat mount you should be able to see if there's any rot around these areas. Again if your not sure leave a deposit and at least get a report done on the car from anyone even the aa.

For £28k I would want it to be in better condition, it does look like there are signs of rust and the whole engine bay looks pretty messy. For what it will cost you definitely get an independent inspection done before you hand over any money. Its a private sale so there wont be any guarantee on it.Be cautious as its a lot of money to spend and you need to be 100% certain its worth it. Best of luck. Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks guys. I decided to slow down a bit and get an inspection before I go all that way. Will report back.

That Sierra used to belong to a forum member on here going back a few years.

I recognised the reg because I saved a couple of pics of it with no whale tail spoiler on, he just had the RS500 lower spolier on - which is a look I was thinking of going for with my base model.

Anyway, I seem to rememeber a few odd threads about it - not always favourable, pretty sure he had it on the net for sale end of 2014 begining of 2015?

One bloke went to look at it and asked about it on here and said it was a bit rough.

I can't rememeber his username and has since been banned for whatever reason.

Nothing to say it hasn't been improved upon since but as mentioned above that inner wing is surely gonna require a good looking at.

I would imagine engine out etc for a pro to get in and do it properly?

I'll dig out the picture maybe over the weekend, might jog other peoples memories.

Thanks for the extra info. No the guy isn't called Baz.

I think I will just steer clear for the time being. Please let me know if you know of a good one for sale.

Thanks again guys

Thats what I thought, for £28k I would want the car to be ready to go and just need cleaning and servicing now and again.

Turns out I was wrong on the reg... well only just.

The Sierra I was thinking of is D8**XRN not D852 XRN.

My bad, but then again I've been perving over Sierra's for as long as I can remember so not too bad a memory.

RN is a Preston reg I believe.
