I'm back to being Confused! Lol!
I thought the original main beam bushes were no longer available?
Are there no negative issues with fitting solid beam Bushes?
Will it increase noise and reduce comfort? I want to enjoy, fast road, occasional track It!,

You do get a bit of vibration but its not as bad as i thought it might be. I put one of those diff mounts msd sell on mine at the same time and i think its this that transmits more noise?

I look forward to that Paul.
Yes I thought they maybe give some sort of vibration.Mind you saying that the MSD diff mount has a nylon bush fitted to it, it's to harsh, i've got a replacement poly bush here to go in my diff mount. So it could be more diff mount mount vibration you are getting than the beam solid mounts but you wouldn't really know I guess until you eliminated one of the 2 items fitted to your car to test it.

The advice I was given when replacing the Rear end bushes on my Sapphire was poly everything except the trail arms, which I did, at that time the trail arm bushes were still available from ford but even with discount came in at Ł217 for the 4, 2 inner and 2 outer. For a time one side of the trail arms were still available but now gone as with most Cosworth stuff unfortunately.
Personally I wouldn't like solid bushes, if I needed to do the job these days I'd go for poly everything and get the trail arms bushes from GGR. Towards the end I had an Ahmed beam in my Sapphire and the diff mount which I got off of Matt Lewis but never got to experience the benefits as the car died shortly after I'd fitted a load of bits to it. Sapphire ownership is a distant dream for me these days.

Is it right that the Escort Cosworth had different grade bushes for the rear beam mounts and the strut top bushes?
Someone once told me so but never heard/read anything like that on the interballs.

If you want to improve without losing the comfort, poly bush the beam and use the ggr bushes for the Arms! 😊

How's the Sapphire? Are you going to ford fair this Year?
The 3 door has come of age and now qualifies for cheap tax☺.
I've started to work on her but I'm finding that there is a lot of parts to Replace!
I might as well do it right and do it once.....
Do you still have bits for sale or are they all Gone?
You are right, James head is like an encyclopedia of Cosworths 😅.

Sapphire is grand Dave. Just got it taxed for the last time on normal rates, cheap tax next year at last I still have some parts left, feel free to take them all lol Will do you a good cash deal. Might head to Ford Fair if I get it finished to the way I want it but that's gonna cost me so we'll see...I'll do my best though lol

I know the Feeling!
It's hard to maintain them on a budget.
Looked through your parts but the thing are mostly sapphire. Do you have a 3 door in hiding, I've seen you look for 3 door parts on Here!

You need to compress the bush in order to fit the bolt.
I put the guide plate underneath the bush and mounted it loosely with the 2 front bolts. Then I put a jack underneath the guide plate such that the hole for the bolt was still free. You can then jack up the beam and the guide plate will compress the bush enough to get the bolt in. Mine were the standard yellow Powerflex bushes, so I hope that with the harder black series it will still work this way.

i know this thread is a little old, but what's the final verdict on this topic? especially interested in the combination of solid beam mount with GGR or Ford trailing arm rose joints, how bad is the noise and durability of these?

I've poly bushes in my beam and I've changed my rear diff mount for poly mount. These made a massive difference. The car handles a lot better. I've kept the standard suspension arm bushes.

I still need to replace my poly beam bushes with solid ones, But I couldn't get the poly ones out (yet) with the beam still underneath the car.
Although the poly bushes seem very hard I have the feeling that for the application they really aren't that hard. I once saw a 2wd Cosworth with these yellow Powerflex beam bushes launch and you could clearly see the rear wheels move forward inside the wheel arch. This can only be because of the bushes allowing this. The car did have a 6 degree beam, good diff and semi slicks fitted, so very good grip. The beam moving forward when accelerating isn't such a big problem I suppose, but during hard cornering it will also move, probably changing the toe of the rear wheels which isn't good.

@Marc:
The poly bush thing you describe with the launch, we're talking about the arm bushings here, or still the beam mounts?
For the arms, mine is just a DOHC Sierra, so the rose joints would be a big step from old stock bushings (not spherical) right now, but not sure if poly might be enough? Guess they help a lot with dynamic alignment change and such.. This is not a daily driver, also use it for spirited driving a lot and wet track drifting and also want to do some engine tuning or possibly swapping further down the road.. Just redoing all rear bushings now, front is PU and i got Konis and Zakspeed coils all around so handling is not too bad FWIW.

Alright gotcha, thanks. So that's what "solidifies" your opinion that solid beam mounts are needed?
I'm wondering what combination of solid beam mount and diff mount would be best if you still want to retain at least little street comfort - maybe solid beam + uprated poly diff mount? for the diff mount, i guess nylon is harder and then there's solid?
I re-read the thread now and saw that 1374lee was pointing out his combination of solid beam and nylon diff mount was too harsh..
anymore opinions or feedback is greatly appreciate, thanks guys!
