Default Need advice please with rear brake caliper piston and brake cable..

Hi Fella's,

So, pulled out the old pads and disc off, tried ot push the piston back with some grips and bugger me, i cant shift it.

I can turn the piston round but it wont go back in. It comes out with a push of the brake pedal so i know its not seized..

WTF, they usually go back in slowly but i cant shift it.
Wont even go back in with the bleed nipple open.

What will remedy this fella's ?

Id take the whole thing off but im miffed how you release the hand brake cable..

Whats the trick with these two?

Thanks in advance..

Are you sure it's not a piston you have to wind back in? In which case you won't be able simply push it in, you'll need the correct piston wind in tool

Ive just read somewhere else that i may need a wind in tool.!

Is this whats on the rear cossie pistons?

The piston does have what looks like cut outs in the piston, its not just the usuall round hollow piston..

Thanks Del.

You need a piston wind back tool matey, u can grab one from machine mart if your desperate to get one today. It needs the pressure of the tool plus the turning at the same time

Ah, you didn't say it was for a Cossie. I had to buy one for mine many years ago.

As above, should be readily available from any good motor factors (even Halfords at a push!!)

Sorry Del, yeah, a Sapp cossie.

I will try a couple of motor factors here in NZ tomorrow now.

Would you know if they are left or right hand threads? The piston is near out so i dont want to go the wrong way.
Im guessing its a normal right hand thread..

Thanks again Fella's.

Can't remember tbh, it's been a while since I changed the rear pads.

We have a kit that does both. Might be overkill for one car, but my son's a mechanic so he has it in his tool box at work

Grind down a socket if you are stuck, sure it's clockwise to wind it back in,you need to push too.
To get the cable off get some adjustable pliers and grip the cam part that the cable goes onto and turn towards the cable and you can release the ends of the cable, tap the plastic ends of the cable out of the carrier.
If you remove the caliper to hold it in a vice then to bleed crack the nipples and turn the ignition key to the first position and the abs pump will pump the fluid through itself.

Clockwise and it needs a great deal of force hence why the tool has a thread on it.

Will post a pic in a bit of the tool.

I put a G Clamp on mine but managed to wind it at the same time with a screw driver.

The handbrake cable need to be fully loose on the adjuster on the hand brake lever and then with thin nosed pliers you can unhook it OR I think you can take the caliper off and then twist it out of the way.

Thanks again Fella's,

All sorted. I used the correct above tool borrowed from a mechanic friend of mine..

I still might invest in one though.

Just an update..

Had the calipers referbed and due to NZ not having many Cossie parts here, they used a ford / volvo rubber kit and replaced one of the pistons with a Mazda RX 8 one.. I know that Mazda mixed it up with Fiesta a few years ago but i wouldn't have though these parts would mix.

I should have took a pic as the piston has a different face. It has two undents so the pads sit in to it though. They are back on now..

Thanks again for the help Fella's.

If you find you need any other parts for a rear calliper then I have one spare that I can butcher if you get stuck
