You can buy an adaptor plate to fit the MT75 gearbox to the Duratec he engine and also a rwd sump. As for engine mounts it may be worth looking at something from Mazda or a ranger that's rwd with a duratec

I was thinking of using a type 9 gearbox and yeah that might be a good idea I was just going to make my own but if I can buy some it would be better

May be worth getting on to some of the mk1/2 Escort guys? I'm sure they'll have an idea of what works best?

First post.....

I have had a 2.0 duratec in my xr4ti for about 3 years now. In this picture you can see 44mm Mikunis. Running Jenvey ITB's now.

Spec:
2.0 focus duratec, non vvt. Mazda MX-5 flywheel and starter, MX-5 transmission. Ford Ranger 2.3 duratec oil pan for the rear sump.

With 2wd subframe clearance between the oil pan and the cross member leaves about a 1/4" and makes the fire wall a squeeze. I am collecting parts to install a 4x4 cross member so I can gain clearance on the firewall. I will also go forward with leaning the engine over 10 degrees to right the transmission. FWIW I haven't had any issues with the trans leaning towards the driver.

Would the 2.3 engine and gearbox out of a Scorpio not drop straight in?

A 2.3 dohc i4 hybrid with an Rs2000 top end will make good power but it's a lot of cast iron. May as well fit a pinto. The Duratec is way cooler and will make more power.

Mazda rx8 box will fir with an adapter plate of off the shelf bellhousing, they have 6 speed, close ratio, smaller and lighter than type 9 and won't break. They even have carbon prop on some.

you can get a 6 speed from an MX-5 that will bolt to the duratec without modification. I have one sitting in my garage.

fwiw the trans still weigh close to 75 lbs. A lot of iron inside those cases.
