Default Earliest registered 4x4 saph cosworth

Was flicking through eBay and spotted this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/Ford-..._qi=RTM2065547
It was registered October 1989 and the seller says it is a 4x4 sierra cosworth. my 2wd was registered in June 1990,I thought they finished 2wds then sold the 4x4's?
Seen one 2wd h plate car but never seen a g reg 1989 4wd.
Is this a very early 4wd or as I suspect a very bad ringer?

seen a few G reg 4x4's which would have been registered in 1990 but before the August cut off to H reg, no idea how many were built and registered in late 89 though

According to the book 'Cosworth and Ford - the road cars' the 4x4 was officially launched in February 1990 and went on sale in March 1990.

Good spot, about 3" from where it's supposed to be too!
Never heard of a g plate 4x4,especially an 89 car which made me ask the seller a question.
Reading Wikipedia it says the 4x4 box was not available till late 89 then the 4wd was launched in january making an October registration impossible.

Dash you looks ok but interior looks pretty worn for the miles, handbrake lever is shiny, seats look well sat in and the rear seat is very stained.
My query is the registration date and it being a 4x4,is it correct or impossible??

add looks like normal dealer waffle, so probably not sure what hes selling?

You will struggle to find one in this condition with only 64k miles on the clock, Been cherished over the years,
The interior looks quite poor really, from what you can see of the drivers bolster, looks worn, and whats all over the rear seats, look at the arm rest.

far from what I would expect on a 20K car!

engine bay looks ok, but again not 20K material

The first 4x4 were 90 on a G there are no 89 4x4 that I've ever seen (and we used to buy and sell them in the early 90's).

I wonder if it has a 2wd tailgate, I didn't think the 4wd cars had the finger latch round the lock.

I am pretty sure the first 4x4 Saffs were registered in January 1990 , none in 1989.

I'd seen this car too and initially thought it was a 2wd due to year..? Doesn't look the best example especially for that price.

Iirc my g plate 1990 saph has the push button boot lock with black surround, that looks to have the flat style lock.
Maybe a hpi report may come up trumps on this 1?

The facelift did away with the boot lock push due to security so it's very doubtful
However, saying that there were some 2.8 Sierra s fitted with the mt75's
