Just got some 18 x 8 et35 Comp MO6, fitted them up today and the front touch the bottom on the Koni's have I bought the wrong wheels here or am I missing something?

Wrong wheels but spacers may save you, check the geometry too

Ive been reading some posts on here and there seems to be a lot of people running 8 x 18 comps, and a lot of people saying et35 is the right offset for the 4x4 so I don't understand. Drivers side has slight clearance from the top of the tyre to the bottom of the Koni's Spring seat. The passenger side the wheel won't fit on as the spring base hits the wheel??

Any advice? Can the Koni's be modified or will I need to change to coil overs. Or could I have the wrong tyre size?

If one side looks right but the other doesn't then it is geometry, you may want to reduce tyre width to help though

What part of the geometry can be out to cause the top of the tyre to make contact with the base of the shocker seat? Surely the length of the strut from the shocker seat to the hub is the same on both sides and cannot be changed?

What tyres sizes are people running on 18" on 4x4?

I've got the same wheels on mine I run 215 35 tyres no rubbing at all

Not trying to put a dampener on things but has your car ever had a front end crash? If it has maybe one side is now slightly out compared to how it was originally? It makes no sense that one wheel and tyre fit without making contact and one doesnt.

ET35 is the correct spec for 8x18" Compomotive MO6 I have the same on my 4x4
Had the same problem with my wheels with 225/35/18 on it and I modified the Koni's.
In the end I went for coilovers which are way smaller in diameter and don't have this problem at all.

The camber could make it hit there, have you got adjustable track control arms or is it standard? You might want to get it laser aligned first and check all is true and then consider coil overs as per above

The strut and hub are fixed to each other, so aligning the car won't change anything. It could be that the strut is slightly bent where it sticks into the hub.

Ah, I see what you mean. Must need to mod as per the pic or add coil overs then.

The strut could be bent but should be possible to see if you remove it front where it enters the hub..?

Tyres are 215/35/18, with no scrubbing

It's strange that one side is ok and the other isn't. I assume both tires are the same size. If it hits the bottom of the spring cup it seems like one strut is shorter than the other. This could indeed be the case, as the escort had longer struts to fit bigger diameter wheels. It could be that one side is Sierra Cosworth 4x4 and the other is escort cosworth.

What struts do you have and are they the same part number?

Check and make sure you don't have 1 4x4 koni and 1 2wd koni.

So I've been out to look at the car again today and found the issue.

From the hub to the bottom of the Spring base on one side measures 18cm on the other 22mm. Therefore it seems when I bought the Konis from the breakers I've been given to different struts.

I wounded if this is why my tyres have been wearing on the inside edges on the front?

But even on the side the wheel does fit the 225/40/18 tyres are to big as the wheel is catching on full lock. I've read most people are using 215/35/18 so a tyre change seems to be one of the fixes. But what are you thoughts on the Konis? Shall I go for new 4x4 Saphirre Konis, coil overs or Escort Cosworth Konis to give better clearance? Will this effect anything?

Surely it's not right running with the two different struts as they are now as one spring will be compressed more than the other?

Yes you will need to sort that,are you 100 % certain that both suspension struts are seated equally in the hub, check they are both poking out the bottom by the same amount and if not you can undo the pinch bolt and drop the longer one down.

As I said before, one will be from an escos, the other from a Sapph 4x4. But running 225/40 is too big anyway. I would go to 215/35 and see if that fits the Sapph 4x4 strut. If so, get a set of Sapph 4x4 struts. Escort struts will make the car sit high at the front as the springs aren't made for that setup.

Seem to remember years ago, people having this issue, with, iirc OZ Super T's, regularly cured by "dressing" the spring cup with a hammer!?
