Post 4x4 MT75 for mid engine installation

Hello, this is my first post on this forum.

I have a complete 2.9 4x4 Ford Sierra, a rebuilt 2.9 Cosworth Boa engine with 3 X Weber DCNF40's on bespoke manifold and I'll be using a Nodiz Pro mappable ignition.

I intend to install the BOA engine onto the sump/subframe/MT75 gearbox from the Sierra but it will be mid mounted in a 2 door Morris Minor.

As space is limited the engine and gearbox will be turned 180 degrees and I intend to use the front differential only, giving me rwd.

I have looked at the Quaife 6 1/2"LSD differential and I'm hoping that this will take the estimated 260 bhp on its own.

What I would like to know is, can the differential be inverted to allow for the change in orientation of the engine/gearbox either in its casing or does the whole differential have to be inverted? and can the viscous coupling be changed for a replacement straight shaft so that 100% of the power is transmitted to the front differential?

Would like to keep the transmission complete and convert the Morris Minor to 4 wheel drive but I would not fit in it if I went down that route and I'm really looking forward to the induction noise from triple twin choke downdraughts' just behind my ears!

Will be fabricating a new chassis.

Cheers.

I can't see how that would work as all the power will go to the other side of the front diff which would be pointing towards the back of the car, the front diffs arn't the strongest casings and putting 200 bhp through one will surely kill it

It seems a very difficult way of doing it why not just put the engine in the normal way and use a 2 wd mt 75 with the front casing off the 4x4 box to match the v6
that is a tried and tested conversion

Default Gearbox and Diff

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply,

I had purchased an MT75 from a dohc Seirra with a view to making a hybrid 2wd gearbox by using the front of the casing from the 4x4 gearbox. I will then need an Atlas axle with an LSD.

Would the gearbox from a diesel be a better donor for the rear casing and gears?

What I was trying to do was use as many of the parts I all ready have, i.e. the IRS from either the Seirra or the Scorpio the engine came from, I also have a complete front subframe and suspension from a MK2 2.8i Ford Granada, the BOA will fit on it and it would improve the brakes and steering and avoid having to fabricate mounts for the struts as it is double wishbone.

It would be easier to go down this route but I'm 6'4" and am aware of how much room the tunnel would take up, having said that the car may end up as road legal but used solely on the track.

Cheers,

Phil.

Hi phil, yes you have the correct gear box combo for a front engined rear drive conversion, the 2.0 gearbox works fine, I'm sure the diesel gearbox will just be different ratios, not something ive seen people have to use

MT75 4x4 box wouldn't last long running all the power to the front prop and the front diff can't be run upside down unless you weld/block up the breather hole in the top of the casing. The front diff wouldn't take the power of the V6 either.

Might be easier to get an adaptor plate made and use an Audi FWD box
