Motorsport developments engine loom for 4x4 Sierra cosworth

Bought one a few months ago and finally found some time to look at fitting it,
Any one done one themselves if so any tips or things to make life easier?

kosienutter 28-02-2016 07:41 PM

Not that I have removed a loom fully but it would just be a case I guess of removing the lower dash to aid in finding the grommet in the bulkhead and feed to old one through after of course removing the ecu out of the holder and the one I think above it and its cradle which if I remember rightly is held on by a couple of bolts???

And with the new loom labelled up it'll be well easy.

Hope this has been some help :cry:

Guinnless 29-02-2016 12:37 PM

They are nicely labelled up so that bit is easy. Remove the glovebox to give you access to the big grommet in the bulkhead.
Just take your time and keep it as tidy as you can. James (Loomer) said my fitting handiwork wasn't bad but could have done better when I returned to MSD :-) LOL

This loom makes a huge difference to the running voltage and much reduces voltage drop. When my fans kicked in there was hardly any voltage drop instead of the usual 1v!

Where is the best place to connect to the car loom?
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/passion...496537c2e.jpeg

Is it this multi plug labled as 1

You should have received instructions with the loom. I didn't chop any muliplugs but just soldered the wires in your second pic where it said in the instructions.

The wires on that muliplug looked damaged??

Loomer 01-04-2016 08:55 AM

That is the connector you need to use, all the feeds you need are in there, just cut the plug off and connect the new loom to it.
or you can wire the new loom to the fuse box and connect directly to the dash display for the gauges.

Green-Tacho- (Car loom Green)

Blue-Engine coolant temperature gauge (Car loom brown/white)

Brown- Oil Pressure (Car loom light brown/green)

Red- switched Ignition feed (Car Loom Black)

The fuel pump relay fuse has a blank output pin, connect to the car loom Black/Red OR to the fuel pump directly, (We advise the use of an inertia switch if running directly)

Chris 82 01-04-2016 10:12 AM

I have a new fuel pump loom run in but not connected can it be used still if so where should I connect it?

May be bitten a bit more than I can chew! It's a steep learning curve owning a cosworth!!

Loomer 01-04-2016 10:14 AM

yes it can be used no problem, you are best just connecting the engine loom up to the OE fuel pump feed which will run down through the inertia kill switch, the fuel pump loom will then take the feed after the kill switch as a trigger in the boot.

If its one of my fuel pump looms, its a small blue cable that you connect to the OE pump power as the trigger.

Huge up

Hi

i m changing my loom as well
regarding the inside car loom i have:

black
black / red

red/blue... stu told me we do not use it any more

green
brown/white

so 1 wire is missing

for the oil pressure light or the coolant temp gauge
depending the affectation for the brown/white

how do you manage this issue?

thanks for your help

Loomer 09-05-2018 08:37 AM

You may not need to use the oil pressure wire if this is in the chassis loom, you can leave it in used if so. Otherwise if you cannot find the cabling fit it you can pin it out and connect directly to the dash wiring.
You can bell it out from the standard loom and find out which cable it is.

I've just fitted one of James' looms to my RWD Saff.

Very straightforward bar a couple of queries (but I do this shit for a living on oil rigs).

Car fired up first time, no problems so far.

MSD have such a great reputation for help like this, you can phone them and often their site has diagrams etc. I would consider emailing them if you did not get the instructions.

I fitted one James (Loomer) looms last year. Everything is spot on. :top:

Engine loom partly connected to the main loom

SO i finaly got my new loom.
When removing the old engine loom i find that it was partly connected to the main loom just behinde the glovebox / ECU. And it was stuck. So i was opening the loom to get the wires out, some had connectors running back to the cupe fan area just under the front window, 2 conecctors there. Some was going close to the coil. And some was going to a couple of reelays and a fuse neer the ECU/ glov box. Some off the cables had to be shopped to get it the engine loom loose.

The main feed was behinde the battery so thats easy.

What im wondering is what it all was/ are for? The car had AC and heated windsreen but are that going in to the engine loom form the main loom ?

Any here that knows what are going tru the engine loom? From what i can tell its not just to the engine /coil/ sensors etc.
Its a 92 shapphire from italy
Thanks

The heated screen is normally connected to the blue wire of the alternator. I think it should connect from the main loom to the engine loom through the 3 plugs behind the battery, so there should not be an extra connection for this.

I only have the wiring diagram for the 1990 Cosworth and back then there was no factory fitted aircon available. On other Sierra's the factory aircon system connects to the ECU with 2 wires close to the ECU. But all the other Sierra's use a Ford EEC IV ecu and the Cosworth uses a Magnetti Marelli ecu, so it might not work in the same way.

This was inside the engine loom. Glovbox

Aircon parts, They do all come out, but we don't offer a solution for the Aircon yet, you would need to remove it from the old loom and add in as a standalone unit if you needed to use it.

paalrosen 08-07-2019 03:10 PM

Thank you so much.
Then i can try to remove it all as i dont need it.
Was worried i needed some of it to make my car run.

paalrosen 09-07-2019 08:03 PM

Dead fuel pump

The new engine loom is connected to the feed behind the battery. But the fuel pump is dead, it doesn't prime either. . Any ideas?

Glenn_ 12-07-2019 07:29 PM

Is there any power to the fuel pump relay..I would put a live and earth to the fuel pump and see if the car will start before you go an further.

paalrosen 12-07-2019 09:16 PM

Have a suspicion that the ECU is dead, nothing happens. The pump runs with the feed straight on the battery. But no relays are activated by the ECU. Have borrowed a L6 ECU I'll try tomorrow to be sure if my L8 is dead or not. No relays is doing anything at all

No luck whit the L6 ECU, no power at pin 20 in the connector, nothing whit the ignition feed straight to tha battery eather. Think i need to whait for my buddy to come home from vacation for some help

paalrosen 21-09-2019 06:02 PM

Loomer had made a mistake misplacing to wires
