sierra sapphire seat mounts

so took the carpet out of my sierra to discover the seat mounts were patched by stevie wonder is the piece of metal thats spot welded on with 3 spot welds important or could i just do away with that and weld a nut on the new piece of metal i put in or whats the best thing to do ?

It adds strength to the floor pan where (obviously) the seats bolts to the floor, so best to beef it all up.

It's a bad water trap, when you've made it all good seal it up.

so they are needed then i thought it would be a good idea to do away with them and have no more water trap

They are there to stop the captive nut pulling through in an accident.

You can just use harness plates instead.
