Brilliant thread, debating doing the conversion to my sapphire, only thing putting me off is the gearbox, some saying type9 out of a 1.8td and a 2,8v6 bellhousing and others an mt75, any advice would be appreciated, thanks a million.
P.S. anyone that could point me in the direction of an engine/full granada would be brilliant !

The 1.8Diesel sierra box has the shorter input shaft. It can be used but you need to make a spacer to move the flywheel about 3/4" closer to the box.
If you want to use a Type 9 then you need a V6 box or one from a 2.3 diesel sierra. Then either the cast steel capri(2.8)/sierra (xr4I) bellhousing or the alloy one from the XR4x4 2.8. You will also need the 2.8 flywheel.
You will need a type 9 sierra propshaft if you dont have one.

A type 9 is fine if you dont give it too much abuse. MT75 is more up to the job though.

1st off thank you and welcome. Depends on what you want it for/what your gona use car for,if your going to give it abuse do not use type 9 its geared better but is a chocolate box and will shit itself very quickly. you can buy a mt75 hybrid box for around Ł350 or buy a T to X reg 2.5tdi transit gearbox and a v6 mt75 gearbox or bellhousing and have both mated together. there was a full granada cosworth on ebay and on fb for sale for Ł350 and Ł440

Look on ebay and fordpower bud or get a W to X reg ford (2.5tdi) transit mt75 gearbox it has to be 2.5! And get a mt75 v6 bellhousing and get a gearbox company to mate them together

Well been an eventfull few weeks jobs sorted and secured, nursed the car to classic ford and back dropped the diff ready to go to my mates for service clean and bearings/seals replaced as its been making a horrible noise like a grinding noice but when i removed it thought after id drained it id remove rear cover to have a look only to my horror to find all the sun and planet gears chewed up and the VC dried out and cooked. It was then i sat down to think and look at my oltions and baring in mind im turboing it very soon too........ after a long think and speaking to Bara and anfew friends i have decided to bit the bullet and go supra diff.

sounds like a good news mate!
hopefully you won't have to take it down each (kinda) 100mi, like the other ones i saw...
you've really got a torque monster in there lol

also: respect for having taken down the diff again with the car on the stands... it's something i've never managed to do.

keep up the good work and keep us posted...

Photos are not in order for some reason, well...... once it was all fitted and running again I hit another speed bump the poxy exhaust middle box sat hard on the prop so car went to flowtech to have box cut out and a smaller box put in

Will get pics of new box Tuesday evening when I replace the gearbox mount, will come back to that in a minute becaus its caused a major issue

Rear speakers also gave up yet again started blowing 2nd set in 2 years so enough was enough I made up some mounts out of mdf and fitted new 6x9's not the finished product will be getting them molded into rear shelf and then have shelf re trimmed in a darker colour.

Since Fordfair last year I have had 2 electrical issues:
1) Intermittent failing to start, I mean no starter signal all wires are good starter is good been advised that it is most likely down to an ignition switch fault especially as the current one is 27+years old now so I have bought a brand new one from fords and will fit in the week.

2) Again since Fordfair last year on the dash clocks none of these warning lights have worked, main beam, oil light, parking light and battery light but indicator warning light works fine. So after tracing wires, replacing all bulbs and cleaning all connections I have finally sorted it.......... It was the ribbon that was at fault I got a new set of clocks off of Damo yesterday and fitted today I also fitted my speedo to clocks so I have correct mileage.. all now works however still no parking light switch on handbrake is good so must be faulty wire.

Now the not so good bit, since fitting the diff I've done approx 2000 miles everything ok well that was up until yesterday..........
I'm going Holland in 11 days to the European Ford event and yesterday on my way down to see Damo my gearbox mount failed causing this to happen.

So I've bought another new gearbox mount which I will replace Tuesday after work and I'm having the belhousing welded up on Wednesday then once I return from Holland I will source 2x bellhousings a replace this and the one on my spare box.
But this is the 2nd gearbox mount to fail in 2years so I will be polyurethaning this mount after my holland trip.

Nice updates, sorry to hear about the box breakage though. there was talk on this thread of type 9 gearboxes, would it be worth doing Mazda rx8 conversion to close ratio 6 speed which are stronger and lighter?

The new MK diff cover looks miles better than the old one, I might swap mine over.

I havent really looked into it but from what I've been told the ratios are shit and all wrong for boa, plus although box is cheap having the prop made isnt! My gearbox is solid its juat the bellhousing I keep breaking. Also the rx8 box is not yet proven to take power/torque or abuse under good power/torque

So tonight I did a speed gear calculator thing between my mt75 gearing ant5 gearing and rx8 gearing, the beat box for 0-60 is t5 but after that its the mt75 and has better top end my mt75 also
Came 2nd in the 0-60 the rx8 box was 3rd in all trials so I was advised correctly rx8 gearing not great for boa/bob
