Out of interest what sort of condition are 7k saphs in that you have been looking at?
I'd imagine they are owned by dreamers with overpriced crap but amongst them will be some decent cars.
Remember buying my 1st saph cos, looked at 1 in Warrington which was a shed then a 7k 2wd at some caravan place not far from warrington which was an absolute wreck, didn't start, had been painted with a stick, interior was hanging, flat tyres, bodkit was hanging off and the guy was on drugs.
Bought a mallard green 1 which was almost new as had Been built with everything new from ford which was mint for about Ł4000,got about Ł1500 of spares with it and when I sold the car I got Ł5000 for it.
I'd think now it must be very hard getting a saph since so many have been broken for their running gear

Totally agree with Paul, They are out there!

I must admit I would hate to be trying to find a decent Sapph as they are certainly getting on now!

If it's a 4x4 your after than I think your have a better chance of finding a better one as there later than the 2wd

But either way 2wd or 4x4 are getting rarer and rarer to find a straight one!

I own a Sapphire Cosworth, I think I know what I'm talking about.

Take both cars (assume both are mint)

The only thing done worse in a Focus is loading back seat passengers

They look better, go better, handle better, stop better.... The list goes on and on. The only really really good thing about a Cosworth is the engine, the rest is just Sierra Ghia stuff.

I have to totally agree with you, i also have had both recently and would choose the focus over a saph all day long. The focus does everything so much better.

the focus rs now is 9-10 years old and going for same money will they stay at the money or drop ???

I think they are both equally good investments but just be careful what you buy, the last few weeks i have seen 2 frs sell on ebay for circa Ł4k, any good ? i dont know, but i do know Ł6-7k will get you a nice modded one.

Would have to agree mate, I still love Cossies but the fact is that they're old cars now, if I have another it will probably be more of an ornament than something to actually use,

Mine is an ornament

If the market wasn't so crap at the moment, I'd probably have mine up for sale.

At least you know what you are letting yourself in for lol

You are right about value, I think the Focus will drop more, Sapphires are probably going to increase in value (for good ones).

I assume we are talking about the mk1 Focus RS here?

they also depreciate better, can't obtain parts better, torque steer a lot better, crash better I've seen a few of them proper bent up, they are a nice looking car though,

Lots of things can be added to a saph to make it handle better etc engine aside to compare the rest of the car to a Sierra Ghia is a bit of an oversight Paul

Agreed, but he isn't wrong in what he is saying, a Saph is just a Ghia with Cosworth running gear, but then a 3DR is a base model with a body kit.

The Focus is far better endowed in the suspension/handling department though, the thing is with Cosworth's is everyone wants more power and then just expect the chassis to cope with it, when standard it isn't a problem.

Martin

The focus is just a ST170 with a bodykit.... you can look at it in so many ways.

A cosworth will always be that, a Cosworth. Respected and wanted in the right condition.

Comparing a 22 year old car to a car that is still under 10 years old is a bit daft. They both do something in very different ways.

And as for the Focus being quicker than a standard 2wd Sierra Cosworth, in a straight line at least I dont think so. Much lighter than the Focus with the same kind of power

Saphs are 20+ years old hence why they are much more sought after because they are a lot rarer. Wait another 10 years then I reckon you will find that a MK1 Focus RS becomes A LOT more sought after than what it is now. They aren't old enough yet to become properly collectable and sought after cars.
