what does this pulley do ?
 
I maybe missing something simple here... but on this rs500 btcc, there is an extra pulley just above and to the centre of the cam pulleys. Just wondered what it was for anyone know ? 3.08 mins on the video is a clear shot.

yup its a mechanical fuel pump. remember seeing it talked about on a programme about the BTCC

was there any reason why it was needed ? were the electric fuel pumps not enough when this was built then ?

It was a back up... Just like having two map sensors on some cars.
