Default Standard Air Box Question

I love the sound of the air filter on my cosworth when you back of and the boost goes back through the turbo and makes the t t t t tish noise

but i also love the look of the standard air box, what would it sound like if i bought a standard air box? would it t t t t t tish when i backed off?

Haha im wondering exactly the same thing as ive put the airbox i had on for the first time. I run a spec r DV which takes most of the flutter away from the filter . Every now and then though you can get both DV and flutter noises going on lol..... Not sure its good for the turbo though but its a sweet noise if subtle . I reckon the box would quiten things down alot.

It will still chatter like mad. Cut the bottom of the airbox out and use a K&N etc panel filter.

It's quieter than a cone, but still loud, if that makes sense lol

That was mine with an Escort Cosworth airbox.

By the way how is the std air box attached to engine bay, as I don't seem to have any mounts for it? I have cone filter which is fitted by a previous owner and I'm planning of putting the std air box back in some time. There is two U-shaped mounts on the air box but can't see any counterparts to them in my engine bay.

Air box might remove the chatter sound I assume but would make the engine bay look more OEM.

Okay thanks. I just don't have the threaded stud, or bolts going through inner wing. They've been removed by previuous owner seemingly. So im gonna make my own mounts for the air box then.

The studs are on the air box, you just need some m5 or m6 nuts and washers

But I don't have any kind of studs in the air box. My air box looks kinda like this:

I have two mounts on the bottom of the air box, just like the one visible in this picture. I just lack all the studs and nuts etc. to attach the air box. But I wanted to know how its done originally, so I can mount it myself by sourcing the bits I need for it.

If you are missing the stud, it's been broken off at some point.

Been running my new engine in with the K&N panel filter and standard box alongside a spec r dv and can safely say it sounds the bollox. 'Catch' it right and it flutters off in a nice subtle manor . I suspect it would happen alot more without the dv and im well happy running this combo.
Edit- It doesnt seem much quiter coming on boost either and is just a tidier sound altogether. wont go back to a cone filter again.
Mike
