Default 2wd header tank

Just a query on header tank on 2wd - looking at other engine bay pics, the tank on mine looks different. The water return from turbo goes in lower - and it flows in under the upper water level mark.
It was going to come out tomorrow as its filty inside.

Same header as mine there and im also unsure what its off. I got mine desperately in 2005 at Fordfair when my o.e 2wd saph expansion tank split in traffic. It was marked up as 4x4 but unsure there?
Just checked my old o.e one and the return is at the upper most part of the tank on the side a good 2-3 inch above the max line.
Mine ran fine like it but it may not be a good setup like this? It would flow freer above the max line surely?

Probably preaching to the wise here but you can get a 4x4 one brand new from Ford/Ebay still.

2wd header tanks are very hard to find in good condition, if you want to smarten it up get a new 4wd tank and a new correct hose from roose, will look loads better then.

You could pay up to £1000 for a new 2wd tank - IF you can ever find one.

Well this evening I had a go at cleaning out my header thank. I got sick looking at with all that rusty stuff inside. Wife and kids away, so kitchen sink available Had a look about in kitchen and tried some surface cleaner stuff, and no good. Then thought if I had something lightly abrasive to shake about inside, then it would dislodge the coating inside. Remembered the fishtank outside in garage with the small coloured pebbles you have in tank bottom. Got tank off, and filled with some washing up liquid, and filled with cup full of pebbles, put cap back on and shook like mad. It actually worked well - looks much better. The things you do for your cossy.

Yes you can, and for £35 very reasonable as well, I am going to get myself one to replace the horrid alloy one someone has fitted!

The 2WD one has the fitting where the coolant sensor would have been akin to that of the 3DR!

You can buy a hose from Roose Motorsport that will replace the one you've DIY'd up, would tidy things up a bit and reduce the chance of it leaking?
