Looks like what's in a Mustang with T5. I had a '89 Saleen Mustang that had one like that, I took out the rubber insulator to get a better feel, not as mushy.

On the Mustang the trans shifter point was farther forward than Sierra, accounting why it curved back and toward the driver(LHD) easier to reach
