What clutch for 400bhp?

What is a suitable clutch for a 400bhp 2wd saff. I currently have an AP uprated plate with standard cover. I was thinking of a 6 paddle plate but could I use the standard cover or will I need an uprated one?

I have a ap organic clutch at the minute and it's slipping. It was fine running 350 but now Ive had 400 conversion it's started slipping. Do you sell ap 6 paddle clutches?

Something for 350 to 400bhp may be a alcon or AP 6 paddle and HD cover, depends on interest i guess.

Peeps, at this level you really do not need a paddle centre plate, I know cause I've been there. You need an AP cover and an organic plate. Mine ran on this set up for a couple of thousand miles with no slip what so ever. Only changed to paddle when we upped the boost on the final mapping which took it to over 500 brake and nigh on 490 ft/lb torque, and it started to slip in the higher gears :top:

I have an ap plate and standard cover. Would it be best to buy a complete kit or just a cover? Where is best place to get one?

Hi ... do you have any "numbers" on these AP cover and plate ??? as I had the same problem with sliping clutch when I ran a AP setup like it ??

ShiftyOldScoob 08-02-2012 02:04 PM

I used to run a tilton 6 paddle plate and a standard (second hand) cover.....

Bit hard, never slipped and had a lovely light feel to the pedal!

The original tilton heavy duty race cover was an absolute nightmare and kept snapping cables it was that heavy...used to make my thigh shake lol

R4N SS 08-02-2012 04:02 PM

when i had 400bhp/lbft on my moonstone 3dr i had an alcon 6 paddle clutch with uprated cover and it was great. Pedal was much lighter than the AP 6 paddle clutches too

I think your best bet would be to buy the AP cover and organic centre plate as a kit. Woodford Garage Motorsport have always been very competitive in my experience :top:

Nah, I don't have any numbers sorry mate, the centre plate was binned about eight years ago, and the cover is still in my car going strong, also after about eight years :top:

Use a Helix Cover, ideal set up for up to 500 BHP

-beefy- 19-02-2012 10:39 AM

matt can you supply a helix cover ???

Yura 20-02-2012 09:17 AM

I use helix HD cover + helix 6 paddle plate at 400bhp from GGR. Not slipping, normal for road use, but a little hard pedal. Next time if I still 400bhp I will use this cover with organic plate. I think it will be best setup for road use.
