Nothing wrong with them blocks i'd use one at 500+ heard of more old 200 blocks cracking than 99

tiny2white 26-07-2011 08:33 PM

makes me laugh when people refer to blocks as 'Turkish'

Seen as every block was cast in Turkey then sent to Germany for machining does that mean we all have something to worry about?
There was however a batch that were miss cast leaving the bores of centre by around 5mm most of which were destroyed with only about 50 or so slipping through the net!!!

If your un lucky enough to have one of those forget about 400bhp

cossiedave 26-07-2011 08:34 PM

had 530 bhp when i had my saph with no problems and its still going strong now

No!! only a single batch are causing problems
The ones with '99' cast into them are the batch that can cause problems. Their ARE loads of those around & at 500bhp its perfectly fine. At high 600's a new 99 block have been found to warp. I know cos i measured mine . MADAde has a 99 block used at low power & fully heat cycled that is currently OK at 650bhp.

How much did it warp by Rod?

and why do people refer to them as Turkish?

What's the limit with this '99-block?
I have '99-block (90.5mm bore) with original head bolts and it has dynoed 608.4hp@8098rpm / 593.4Nm@6803rpm.

If I lower the power to approx 500hp and increase torque, does it hold together?

there is no 'limit' its down to luck as much as anything else, i would say at that ower level you are taking a chance.
