My 2WD Sapphire needs anew Throttle Position Sensor.
Can anyone tell me where I can source one? Thanks |

They are not availeble at the moment. You can find them on some ducati websites as they are the same on the ducati but you pay 180+£ i think you can get them from burtonpower aswel but at the same price.

Look in Motorcycle News, for ducati dealers, around £35-£40 NEW, but that is for a 4wd one, no 2wd made any more, 4wd can be used by simply swapping the outer wires around on the tps connector.

tabetha Also they are certainly not the genuine Weber items for that price! Martin |
I didn't say they were the same, did I ?
I said the 4wd one could be used in place of the 2wd one by swapping the wires, and YES most definitely they are genuine as used by ducati, it just doesn't pile on the cossie tax, by the way it is the 4wd one that uses a idle "switch", NOT the 2wd, I can send you some pictures of a 2wd one exposed in all it's glory if you like, there is no idle position, the "switch" I think you'll find is NOT in the sensor but is made by the ecu on receipt of a suitable signal value from the tps. If ducati dealers crack on the price will rise, just yet another reason to ditch the w/m ecu's imo, my universal sensor cost £20 BRAND SPANKING NEW, and takes 30 seconds on the lap to to align by pressing throttle fully and releasing!! tabetha |
NICE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The idea behind this is that the closed position is clearly defined. The sensor must be set up so the slightest movement will close the switch and the voltage will change from 5v to 4.4v.(the voltage decreases to 0.35v when the throttle is fully open). The disadvantage is that the most likely fault is an open circuit due to wear or a wiring problem, which cannot be identified by the ecu and so will not flag up a fault. A faulty output could cut the fuel during normal driving causing misfires or an engine which won't rev. The setting up of the switch position is critical as the throttle does not have to open very far for the revs to rise and the ecu must realize that it is the throttle controlling the revs and not the idle speed control valve, the result may be surges or stalling. PF09 - This sensor is just a variable resistor and the extra programming capacity in the level 8 ecu is able to automatically calibrate the closed throttle position. The calibration takes place during normal driving by detecting the lowest stable voltage from the tps (which should be the closed position) and it then sets the threshold to that value plus a few millivolts. Because the voltage should never be 0v or 5v, unlike the PF01, then an error can be flagged up if they do to show a tps error and the program modified to ignore it. The tps is wired with the supplies reversed compared with the level1 / level6 so the voltage increases with throttle angle. 2WD is open circuit at idle, 4x4 isn't so putting a PF09 on a 2WD car isn't going to work properly!
I asked you on another topic to show us where we can buy these for £35 and offered you a LARGE finders fee. how come you ignored it?
Because I tend to IGNORE the most big headed pricks on here. I was wrong, my memory failed me, I'm NOT going to apologise it's a forum get over it, it's not your personal shop window. You are undoubtedly a knowledgeable guy stu, you'd could be so much better. tabetha |
And for the record there were several people selling these on ebay around £40 NEW said to be ducati fitment, and said to be genuine.
Personally I think your prices are shocking for upgrading a std ecu. tabetha |
Marty,
I apologise you were right I was wrong. tabetha |

Result!

No it cant. A PF01 on a L8 or P8 will not correctly operate any idle strategies as it never sends out a throttle closed signal.
Stu, what about using a PF09 with a L1 or L6 ecu and swapping the outer wires, or is it a case that if your running l1 or l6 and your PF01 fails you have to upgrade your ecu ? |
Just get one of those dogs bollocks ecu's that tabetha has. He doesnt need a tps he just presses the throttle and the engine senses how much via the power of telepathy. He can also use hot dog sausages for injectors because siemens are well over rated. Oh and closed loop...... Forget it. Tabetha's car uses Bluetooth!!

I have enjoyed the debate however I am no closer to an answer.
My car has a L6 ECU. Can I use the 4WD TPS or the Ducati equivalent or not? I really need to sort this because the car isn't working very well at all. |
For l6 you need a pf01, give paul at north yorkshire rs spares a ring, when i was looking for a tps a few weeks ago he said he had plenty of pf01's just not the pf09 i needed. Will be second hand but better than paying £190 like i had to :wall:
|
No as I and Stu have said above you CAN'T use a PF09 (4x4) on a 2WD ECU, i.e L1/L6. You have to have a PF01!
Martin |
To clarify somewhat.
The PF01 sensor, when fitted to a 4wd loom and L8 or P8 ECU with the 2 outer wires reversed will work ok in all modes except idle and trailing throttle. I.E:
The same is pretty much true for using a PF09 in a L1 or L6 ECU as again, the closed throttle reading is wrong, however, the L1 and L6 will NOT flag a TPS error as it simply believes the throttle is always open. |
