Trouble fitting 2wd diff mount?!
Tried to put one of these on my 2wd Saff after fitting a new CWP and ATB in my diff, and it doesn't fit!
I had to take out the alloy washer and trim back the stainless sleeves, and with only a gnat's clearance, it still rubs on my ARB on the overrun! As the original was a waste of space, what do I do now?! GGR has very kindly offered to take it back as I can't use it, the vibration is driving me bloody mad!! Anyone else had the same issue on their car? They showed me a pic of one they fitted today, and it fitted perfectly! After 10 years tucked away, I just want to drive the bloody thing!! you have to use cap head bolts as for some stupid reason the people who sell these mounts sell them with bolts that done fit! then try selling you a fush fit bolt set? lol i got my stainless 8.8 cap heads from hampshire bolt and tool for about 3 pounds

mines an r and b one there still very close but dont touch there was no way it would go in with normal headed bolts!

Mine didn't, to the point I had to tweak it slightly, and it still rubs.

what rear roll bar are you using? if its got the larger escort rollbar then you will need a mount with countersunk bolts like msd sells

my msd one knocks liike fuck and does my head in, too lazy to change the bolts i ll get round to it soon

NO knocks or fitting probs on mine, even with 22mm arb AND my tow bar brackets around the same area, std bolts used as well.

Hi fellas, how can some ( like mine and bad boy rs) knock and vibrate and others not even be close?!
I am running a STD arb for gods sake!! Answer this, would you at any point machine the mounting lugs on the rear cover to get these things to fit? Or is that absolutely barking? Please be brutally honest, I just want to get in this thing and enjoy the drive! Not asking too much is it?! Thanks for your comments fellas Weeksy |
All you need to do is use the countersunk bolts and plate they're fine then

Speak to mike rain bird he will sort you the plate and bolts :D

He does the welded variety of mount doesn't he? And lists the slimline kit extra?
Does the NSF one not have countersunk plates and bolts then dude? I have to take my hat off to ggr here though, they have been really helpful with all this- so frustrating when the one in their workshop fitted perfectly with loads of room to spare... Why couldn't mine :-( |

The Diff Mount clearance issue is a wierd one actually, if you measure a collection of diff to roll bar clearances there is about 3mm discrepancy between different cars. very odd indeed.

GGR sent me a pic of theirs fitted complete and it had at least 5mm clearance. with the sandwich plates removed and the sleeves turned down, mine still rubs, and that is the equivalent of 6mm narrower!
I wished the discrepancy was only 3mm Stu! |

That's a grerat offer, and much appreciated, but I am 150 quid down the line with my GGR one, and another 120 quid is going to make it one expensive mount! I am going to machine the mounting lugs a few mm, and put all this aggro behind me , literally haha Thanks |

Not your mistake fella, but not going to send it back, I can't be bothered (and feel ashamed to, it has had a pry bar on it in places and looks a little sorry for itself!

I have replied to the post you put in the Q&A section, and also added a few pics of what I needed to do to clear the ARB with the GGR Diff mount if that helps.

May sound a silly question but I'm new to the cosworth scene and rwd for that matter would you know if your rear diff mount was worn by driving or not also would having it solid like in the pics put major strain anywhere eles on the car/diff or am I a complete retard also is this for 2wd or 4wd saph and how hard are they to fit as I will try have a look at mine tomorrow

I had the same problem when fitting an uprated mount a few years ago before the flush bolt kits were available. I just trimmed a couple of mill off the diff cover, the holes in the mount to the car are elongated anyway so you can then move the complere mount forward a little .

Just fitted my MSD mount, no problem with clearance on mine with a bigger roll bar fitted also.
