Default Cam belt cover interchangeable?

Just a quick one. I reckon I need a cambelt cover for my race car. A few people have mentioned the danger of gravel going into the cam pulleys.

Are the 2WD, 4X4, Escos ones all interchangeable and how do they mount? One central bolt and one lower down?

Thanks,

Charlie

Don't forget the two 1" tall posts on top of the rocker cover at the front.

Looks like they are being used to locate a braided line. But I guess the cover will clear this. If not, I can use a hacksaw I guess.

Thanks for the info.

Thats my view as well, 2 huge rads to get though.
And i'd rather see the condition of the belt.

Fair point. Couple of people I know that race BMWs have had gravel go in - probably from underneath into the bottom pulley - and cause the belt to jump. It's a 10 minute job to fit the cover and I'll change the belt at the end of the season anyway.

Would this not cause higher engine temps on a track car? by shielding the cool air from hitting the front of the block etc, probably a stupid thought I know but there might be some truth in it

The heat aspect isn't an issue, I would certainly run a cover if doing track work, especially for the tracks where they have shingle run off, as said only takes 1 small stone to get in there to cause you well over £1K damage, and if "splashing" through them at 80-100 mph they're going to go everywhere.

I have been using mine on the road without the cover for a while with no issue; and our roads down under are shite compared to the UK. We have gravel everywhere.

Here's a pic of a Porsche hitting gravel:

I can go into the trap at the end of the straight at Brands Hatch at around 80mph if I fuck up so protection is good.

If it was for road use I wouldn't worry. I haven't had one before in two years of racing but my mate with the BMW has a good point.

Good point about not hitting the gravel

And Luke has done a superb job on the engine. It looks great and I know it'll go well.

Cheers,

Charlie
