Default CO Issues..

Struggling setting the CO..

car idles at around 1000/1100rpm..had a quick go at a friends last wk and initially it was on 7.odd (just changed MAP and injectors) I knocked it back half a turn and it dropped down to around 1. I tried to raise it a little and it was just bouncing all over the place then..in the end i just wound it back up to where i started and vowed to try again at a later date.

Just wondering if there could be a problem, or is it just lack of patience on my part.?

As far as I know the CO screw is very sensitive so even very small incriments make a big difference, so patience will help.

Usually, if you change the map, injectors and chip etc, the chip manufacturer specifies which base CO setting to use. This is critical as it affects the whole map.

I assume this is why you're messing with the CO setting.

Good luck, and apply liberal amounts of patience to CO adjustment

Depends on the ecu, mines an L6

7. to 1. sounds a lot in half a turn, sure mine is not that quite that sensitive, i bought a CO Meter and do check mine now and again. suppose it could be, if you can achieve the setting you are looking for and it is stable shouldnt be a problem, but you have this jumping around problem.

you are just turning a linear potentiometer, if that part of the graphite track inside it hasnt been used in a long time a bit of the old left right, left right may bed it in a bit.

if you are really struggling you could remove it, remove the lid, and put a meter across it to see if you are getting a smooth change of resistance as you turn it, (think they are in the 10k range) the L1 ECU it turned and stopped (so im told never turned one) L6 just keeps going round for ever but is not doing anything after a certain point, i got lost with mine an had to do this to find out where it was.

tick over makes a difference when my fans come on the co changes have to wait till go off to carry on.

mines an old crude chip likes to run at 6-8, (as above post) should know where your new chip should be set, of course a fuel dignostics run on a dyno even better if you can get round to it, i did, 12 years after i put the chip in, apperently its fine so that was a waste of money

hope this helps

Cps is nothing to do with this problem.
I remember when I had to adjust mine on L6, just how UNsensitive it was, had to turn it a lot to get effects, I was going really gingerly but needing to do a lot more to acheive a change, but then I got better and ditched the L6!!
When adjusting you need to give enough time for the change to be seen in the exhaust, but idle too long and you then need to clear the exhaust by holding revs high for 10 secs or so, and as said if fans are on stop adjusting, esp if a group a cone filter fitted, as this will raise the co, due to sucking in heated air.

yea its one of yours Stu..for the 55lb Siemens, changed from a 4015. Ideally i would like to get it up to you for a health check..but being nr 300miles round trip its not as easy as it could be.

To be honest, i was in the blokes garage looking to buy his type-r when i spotted the gas analyser, he said i could have a faff but i didnt want to take the piss.

As mentioned, i'll pop the lid and give the pot' a clean and test and have another shot this wk

*edit*

sorry for confusion, jus re-read original post, by MAP i did mean fuel MAP (chip) not MAP sensor

As said CPS has no effect at all, when checking must make sure engine is upto running temp usually good to lets fans cycle then off then check. 7 is way to high.
