How Dangerous
how dangerous is a rwd saff cossie.was thinkin bout one but think i would kill myself in one.how easy do they kick out,anyone had any scary experiences

to properly drive any RWD or 4x4 car, you need some serious experience if you wanna drive fast. Above all for RWD cars.
But this does not mean that it's a coffin with wheels

as already said - you need A LOT of experience to have fun in the wet and be safe!
i have a mate with a 3dr who wont even consider it in the wet - and he is pretty good round rack too so its not a skill you learn over night!
having said that - i cant wait for big power and RWD!

Well yes Andy, they are lots of fun. But only if you know what counter-steering means (not sure of the word in english as i only know it in french, but you get what i mean). It's very special to drive, and they can't be called quite easy to correct when in the wet

They are only as dangerous as you want them to be
you can still have a bit of fun without going mad and wrapping it up round a lamp post!
i have had my 3 door now for over 8 years and it still catches me out now and again LOVE IT

RWD cossie's are great fun, however i have to agree with everybodies comments on here that they can catch you out if you even have the slightest lapse of concentration, in the wet they are horrendous really and its no suprise that so many of them get binned so often, i drive mine everyday rain or shine and often drive it like i shouldn't in the dry!!!!
in the wet they swap ends as quick as you can blink if you get it wrong (i know i have been off the road backwards more than once hehehe).
In the dry they are massive amounts of fun, big powerslides everywhere, arse hanging out coming round bends and roundabouts, big flames when you hit the limiter, lots of noise.....all from a 2.5k shonky mk7 cortina
buy one , and enjoy mate, i wouldn't be without mine

I had my 3dr 3yrs, from normal stg1 upto mad stripped out and 400bhp.
Never crashed it, come close a lot tho, awesome fun, lol.
As a lot of people know on here, i drive like a fookin madman, but never any accidents, even tho id use it hard rain or shine, even tho id do my damndest ro have the thing slideways or wheelspinning as much as poss, even tho it did spin the wheels in 5th in the wet n 3rd in the dry with ease, lol.
Main thing is get used to it, build up your driving madness slowly, dont just do what most people do, take it easy for a bit, think they know the crack, give it some full bore n bin the fooker straight away.

they are death traps if driven stupidly in the wet.
aslong as your careful and dont take silly chances your ok.
cant really race the way the roads are just now.
too dodgy trying to get a smooth change into 4th without it spinning its wheels.
gettin some proper size rear tyres to help that!

yeah id agree u shld b careful in the wet.......had some scary moments!
Does teach u to read the road better (camber etc) and think way ahead. id wait until its dry to practice the sliding round roundabouts tho.

Always be thinking that it may swap ends in the wet how ever carefully you drive it, be gentle and sometimes even in the dry too. Build the speed slowly, get used to its handling in different situations, and I would recommend practicing controlling the loose rear end on wet roundabouts (slower speeds), out of town at night (quiet), and progressive speeds (build confidence), with friends (can increase enjoyment), but not for long periods (will be rumbled by the cops). Lots of fun

Get one bought mate, i have messed around with many fwd GTI's and RS's and then sacked them and bought a 2wd cossy
Mine is only stage one, but nothing compares to a cossy. They can be a handfull especially in the wet but you not lived until yov've owned one.

kool.think i'll just get a standard one,know a guy that had one went to overtake some old dude put the boot down and it started goin by then started goin sideways to he was facing the other way lol.

Hi all, I normally don't post on here and just view stuff using my bf's log in but reading this post has prompted me to get my own log in so I can join in!!
Right well, I'm after a saph and having a dilema over 2wd or 4x4, well it's not such a dilema, my other half says that a 2wd is no good as I'll end up stuffing it as soon as I get it and that a 4x4 is safer for me to use. I'll be using the car most of the time even possibly 1 day a week during the winter. I've only been looking for a few weeks but it seems that there is a load of 2wd cars for sale and no 4x4 so I'm getting a little impatient as you can imagine I'm a woman and I want things like yesterday
Would you agree that he's right or should I go for it and just get a 2wd anyway????

i got my 2wd cossy (bout 380bhp ish) when i was 19. got out of a metro turbo into the cossy & scared the livin f**k out of myself. absoultly love it. had it 5 years & its only been on the road 2 years. MONEY PITT!!!!!!!!!!! still sittin on the drive till i can bothered to finish it. my school of thought was allways drive it round corners like a girl & thrash it down the straights, less chance of breakin it then. get 1 b sensible & enjoy it. just remember youll probably never have any money till u get rid of it unless u work 4 nasa or your a single mother with 4 kids!

powerful RWD car is hell to drive on winter, compared on 4wd.
otherwise i would choose 4wd, but i like 3dr cossie best, so i bought that.

I've got the best of both worlds(3 door whale,and a 4x4 caddysaff)and the 4x4's idiotproof compared to the 3 door,as some have already mentioned can catch you out if your not on the ball and start getting cocky with her.If you want real handling nothing comes near my Lancia Delta Integrale EVO1 i've embarrased mitsevo's and scooby rice rockets all over the place in the Grale,granted it's had a few quid spent on the suspension and brakes(it almost's stands on it's nose)but in my view the best point 2 point car of that era which can still do it today.Only trouble is i can't overtake anything as i'm sat on the wrong side of the f**king car ,thinking of emigrating to Italy!!!!

I got my 4x4 when I was 19 and its absolutely lovely. to those of you who think 4x4 is easier to drive fast, your so wrong you don't even know it.
efficient driving with a 4x4 (track action here, not streetracing) is very difficult to learn, but when you got the hang of it - nothing can keep up
If you never have owned anything with big power and RWD and turbo - get a 4x4 to start with. they got a better engine too
P.S: when a 4x4 get sideways and snaps over - your chances are waaaay better in a 2wd. belive me! I got it sideways in around 100 mph and when the counter came I didn't even have a chance to start turning the wheel from lock before I was going backwards... Kept it on the track though

Tell me guys... Is it more safe to go sideways with a 4wd than a 2wd?? Trust me, when you got 200bhp+ you WANT to go sideways from time to time. (I do, and have been doing that for 10 years) Rwd is safer to learn about drifting in, not many got the guts to slam the pedal to the metal when the rear steps out, especially at high speeds. Until my engine cost more than my house, I'll stick to rwd.

Been following this thread since it started when i was considering buying my stage 3 rwd coz.
Seriously tho, DO IT.!!! Had mine about 2 weeks, its an absolute scream.!!! Its my first Rear wheeler, and like everyone says, if ya take it easy, you will soon get used to it, and more and more confident with throwing the arse out, off ever island.!!!

had ma 3dr for 1 1/2 years now great fun , takes a bit of balls to get over the fear factor you dont want to right your pride and joy off. ave only had one bump third gear drift went wrong cracked fr bumber,head light and foggy's

i have just gone and bought my first rear wheel drive RS never driven rear wheel drive before, after being away from RS's for 2 years, got rid of many series 1 rs turbos, the last one i had (the best one )was a 1.9 all singing and dancing 236bhp dyno proven baby.I now have a crappy astra G reg for work and in a lock up...........................................RS500 god help me!!!!!

i have a lot of driving experience due to my former job as a full-time courier but i must say, a rwd cossie can be a beast on the road sometimes so you relay need a lot of practice to drive it realy hard and fast.
but damn i love that car

ive only got a rwd 2 litre pinto sierra and that slides on the arse end really well cant even imagine what a cossie would do the way i drive at the mo i think i am only going to drive mine in the dry when i finish building it.
